There are people who see anime and manga and think to themselves, "This is cool! I want to make it too!" Pen is put to paper and Dojinshi, or self-published work, is the result. American anime fans take many cues from Japanese culture; including selling their dojinshis at various conventions. A long time ago at MangaNEXT I brought one of those dojinshis called SACRED.

The last Pokémon game I played was Pokémon Crystal on the Gameboy Color. It's not for a lack of interest -- I've always loved the games. Everyone else in America does too, though, which makes them pretty expensive for a half-broke gamer like myself.

On top of being bright, colorful and completely insane, anime tends to have a wide variety of super-expressive emotions. It can be a struggle for first-time anime viewers to keep up with all the symbols racing around the screen or page. Even seasoned veterans of anime don't understand every circumstance for every facial symbol.

This past May, Makoto Shinkai's newest feature-length animated film, Hoshi o Ou Kodomo - Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below debuted in 20 select theaters(including IMAX) across Japan, grossing an approximate US$240,978 on opening weekend, and saw its American debut, complete with English subtitles Saturday, July 30th at Otakon 2011.

With the recent rise of nerd-power, interesting trends have begun taking place revolving around us. Yes, us: the not-so-little community that eats, drinks and breathes anime. Though we're still far from the mainstream's consciousness, other underground groups have begun openly embracing the programs we have sold our collective right arm for.

The Voice Actor is a very usual occupation and the people who become Voice Actors are an interesting lot. They are known to occasionally gather at anime conventions (like AnimeNEXT). If one was to observe them for a prolonged period of time, you could learn many things.
