Weekly Award – Week 5:
Blasting Off Again Award – Team Rocket

Gone are the days of Team Rocket striking fear into the hearts of children and parents alike.

Gone are those rocket launcher carrying, blackmailing, cross dressing duo that we came to know and love. Now in their place live two shallow impostors and a pseudo furry. Team Rocket are a shadow of their former selves. I know they are the comedic relief in a children’s show, but I demand awesome comic relief, not a team that rides on the coat tails of their past selves.

Maybe the world has changed and kids don’t need reminding of the truly bad people out there. I do know one thing however, as I child I didn’t know about terrorists, I knew about Team Rocket….. and they were awesome.

Now for the Round Table rules: As usual each participant is given 6 questions covering various aspects in anime, manga and Japanese culture. Each individual then has to provide their opinion on the said issue. Finally I feed the contestants rare candies in hopes they will one day evolve.

What is your favorite generation of Pokémon? Is it due to the games, the Pokémon of that generation or something else?

K6K – My favorite Gen I have to say is the second one. I honestly think that its due to the Pokémon, considering so many different ones came out, plus the introduction of the Steel type and Dark type Pokémon

Jubilee – Generation 2 is by far my favorite of the four. In my opinion, Gold / Silver / Crystal brought forth the biggest and most impacting changes for the series. I mean we got breeding, moving pokeys, rematches, access to Kanto (which was the best post-E4 thing in all the games), two new types of Pokémon….I think you get the point….

Zero – My favorite would have to be Generation 1, it was my first game, nostalgia I would have to say, Pokémon thrust me into the world of anime and video games and was the first stepping stone to where I am today, surrounded by all my wonderful friends who I have so much in common with regarding Pokémon and other things. While it was to say probably dull, as far as story goes, It was still an amazing game that hooked onto me until Silver version came out.

Ace – I like the first Pokémon generation because it’s the one I started with and I think it all went downhill when they added more. I used to have a poster with all the Pokémon now you can’t even fit them all on a poster.

Kate – My favorite, which I’m guessing many people chose this, would be Generation II. I really loved the Pokémon in it. Plus, we could replay through the Kanto region and kick our character’s butt from Generation 1. That’s right, Red. That Pikachu doesn’t help you anymore. Plus, what would you rather have? Legendary birds or dogs? I’ll take the dogs, thanks.

Deadlymustach50 – My favourite Pokémon generation is the second generation, due to the game and the new Pokémon. Silver and Gold was a great sequel to the Pokémon world for the fact that you could travel to the Johto and Kanto regions. With the sequel came a great series of new Pokémon that included evolutions of the previous generation along with two new types, Dark and Steel. It was such a great series and generation they redid it and produced SoulSilver and HeartGold.

ZshadowX – My favorite generation of Pokémon will be the first generation. NOTHING tops the Originals, why its cuz they have the greatest theme in the first session, they are the most memorable, they are the most easy to remember, plus how much you want to bet that most people know all the 151 Pokémon by heart, and the best part is that they even have their very own Rap to memorize all the 151 Pokémon, oooooh so much love 😛 another thing is that the first generation Pokémon was the best that they could come up with, it’s just original, the best and original of all time!!

What is your favorite Pokémon? What makes it different to any other Pokémon?

K6K – My favorite is and always have been Vulpix. It’s cute, adorable, looks like a fox, and can get you when you don’t expect it with fire attacks.

Jubilee – Froslass. I love her design…she is so wicked. Plus, she’s Ice/Ghost, my two favorite types.

Zero – Raichu is my ultimate favorite Pokémon, when I first got into the series, it was no secret that everyone thought Pikachu was the most amazing Pokémon. My thought process was “If Pikachu is so great, Raichu must be better”. Other then Raichu, some of my favorite Pokemon involve Gardevoir, Honchkrow and Torterra.

Ace – ? I have two, Charmander and Squirtle, they were both so cool and Squirtle had the awesome shades.

Kate – My favorite is Bayleef. I don’t know why, I just started loving Bayleef. Of course, it’s one of the least threatening starter evolutions, but I always support the cute underdogs. Plus, my Bayleef was awesome. Glaceon comes in at second, followed by Jirachi, then Suicune, then Espeon.

Deadlymustach50 – Hm, I have a lot of favorite Pokémon, but I would have to say that Blastoise. Think about it, Blastoise is walking tank with a cannons on its back. There is no other pokemon that can match the same calibre of Blastoise.

ZshadowX – My favorite Pokémon is Metagross. I like it because it is a very tough Pokémon to take down and I also like the combination of steel plus psychic. What makes it different than any other Pokémon is its unique combination of steel and psychic. Plus the fact that Metagross remind me of a new type of Metal Gear for Pokémon, Metal Gear + Pokémon = Metagross, let see how Solid Snake can save the world this time * Evil Laugh…. either I’m weird or I think too much about too much of Metal Gear.^^

In the anime series who is your favorite Pokémon trainer and why?

K6K – Honestly, my favorite Pokémon Trainer in the anime series will have to be Misty, since she was a great Pokémon trainer and wasn’t afraid to show what she loved. And, also, she’s way better with Ash Ketchum than any of the other girls that they show in the newer series.

Jubilee – Cynthia is pretty cool honestly. She has an awesome design, even though I have a hate on for Garchomp, she as a Champion is pretty darn cool.

Zero – Volkner, He’s over confident, prideful, powerful, but in the end know when to have a good time. Volkner earned the titles of “Strongest Gym Leader in Sinnoh” using Electric types, my favorite type.

Ace – I liked Brock even though he wasn’t really supposed to be a trainer. He was funny always try to hit on girls. Why won’t they let him pick up chicks its weird that he can’t have a girlfriend.

Kate – You know.. I really didn’t have a favorite trainer. I never cared about liking one over the others. If I had to choose, I would say those random trainers that appear only in one episode and probably for only five to ten minutes. Because random, one time trainers need some love too.

Deadlymustach50 – This might sound boring and plain, but it has to be Ash. Since I was little it was Ash, who I watched both in the anime series and in the movies. My first Pokémon game I got was the Special Edition Yellow version where it was based on Ash and Pikachu’s adventure. He is still the main character of the Pokémon series and will always be.

ZshadowX – My favorite Pokémon trainer in the anime series is Brock because he reminds me of myself. Falling in love with all the pretty ladies! 😛 Really isn’t Brock the most favorable trainer in the anime. He was with Ash since the beginning. He is the highlight of the show, the star, the one who gets the most laughs throughout the whole Pokémon series…… and the one who gets the most pwn by someone who is just jealous of Brock’s sexy body n_n…plus the fact he is the most useful character, he cleans, he cooks, he know how to take care of your Pokémon, he is also a doctor, he can do anything. Brock is the Man! Without Brock, Ash will be toast; you just can’t spell Pokémon without Brock in it.

If Ash were to finally win the Pokémon league what combination would you like to see him use?

K6K – I would like to see him winning the Pokémon League with his first ever team, from the First Season.

Jubilee – -Charizard -Lapras -Tauros -Glalie -Torterra -Butterfree (It’ll come back someday T.T)

Zero – Most likely using either his Pikachu, Charizard, or whatever fully evolved starter Pokémon he has the biggest bond with (I would assume Infernape in Diamond and Pearl’s case).

Ace – Squirtle, Charmander and Bulbasaur or any of their evolved forms because they are original and the best.

Kate – Ash, winning the Pokémon League? *laughs*

Deadlymustach50 – Well honestly I have no idea. There are too many combination out there to make a conclusion, but you can always count on Pikachu………….. Wait! Hold on! I think Ash should only have Pikachu when he beats the league! That would be the greatest achievement in Pokémon League history!

ZshadowX – ? I would like to see Ash use his Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Snorlax, Pidgeot, and his Pikachu in the Pokémon league. Greatest moment in history!!! nOn

What are your thoughts on the new starter Pokémon of generation 5?

K6K – They are rather interesting, given that their looks. I normally would pick the fire types of the starters but, with seeing what the new starter for the Fifth Gen and how it looks like a pig, I would prefer to pick the grass or water one. The water one is so cute though :3 otters are adorable.

Jubilee – I don’t really care for them. The water otter is horrendously hideous, and a fire pig just doesn’t strike my fancy. The grass one is decent at best, and since I usual start with the grass one, he will have to do. But, I’m not impressed with them in the least…I hope the rest of the pokeyz in the gen. 5 can make up for them.

Zero – Loving them so far, I’m expecting high things from Pokabu and Mijumaru. Obviously Tsutaaja will evolve into some kind of Sceptile like Pokémon and be just as beastly as Sceptile. But, for once we get a fire starter with walks on 4 legs and is a defensive Pokémon (I’m basically expecting a Torterra result from Pokabu).

Ace – I don’t even know what they are but they aren’t as good as the original one.

Kate – This is my thought. Don’t hate on the water starter. Who knows? That cute, adorable sea otter will evolve into a Pokémon fainting machine and knock out the rest of the other starters. By then, you haters will be begging for Mijumaru’s forgiveness. That is all.

Deadlymustach50 – The new game looks great, but I really don’t like the new starters. I don’t know what it is but they don’t seem like a get set of starters. First we have a otter that nothing special to it but a clam on its belly. Then we have what looks like a combination of Cyndaquil and Treecko. Then your last one is a pig that looks too similar to Spoink. So I have my concern about these new starters.

ZshadowX – Personally, I think that they new starter Pokémon of the 5th generation don’t look that nice. I personally thought that after the 2nd generation, the starters started to get a bit weird looking, except for the grass type starters, they always looked cool lol.

What Pokémon would you like to see with a new evolution? Is this a favorite that needs an upgrade or a horrible failure that needs to be taken seriously?

K6K – I’m actually looking forward to what they will do with new Eeveelutions, since there are many other elements that they haven’t done evolved forms for the little guy, but then again, there is a lot that the Eevee can turn into. I would so love to see either an Evolved form for Absol or a pre-evolved form for him, since I’ve seen someone do sprites on what they could look like and they look awesome.

Jubilee – Actually, I think it would be awesome for Arbok to get an evolution. It’s awesome already, but just imagine how awesome it could be when it evolves into an Adnocana! OR maybe Weezing to evolve into a Gagging, then the old Team Rocket could reunite!

Zero – Let me go by a list:
Raichu: As perfect as he is, I would like to see how much further they can take Raichu
Aerodactyl: Strong, fierce, the top dog of the Fossil Pokémon, If he’s dangerous now, I would love to see how much more dangerous he could get.
Gyrados : Roughly the same reason as Aerodactyl.
Haunter: Now don’t get me wrong, I love Gengar, but one of the problems with Gen 1 was that Ghost Pokemon where made to combat Psychic types, but they where half poison, so Psychic can take them out 1, 2, 3. A split evolution for Haunter, making him a Dark Ghost like Sableye and Spiritomb? I understand he would be broken and abused more then Gengar, but nothing that weakening stats couldn’t do.

Ace – uummmmmmmm…. Charazard Blastoise and Venusaur I dont know if they have any new evolve forms and they are already the best so they don’t need to but they could be updated a little so they could be the Pokémon Ash uses again.

Kate – Any Pokémon that needs one. For the heck of more Eevees, let’s see a Dragon, Flying or Steel one. You know that’s coming soon, fans.

Deadlymustach50 – Oh there are couple I think the Pokémon that needs upgrade is Lapras. Lapras has remained unchanged from the beginning and is due for a change. Nothing like Wailord, but something different.

ZshadowX – I would like to see Skarmory have an evolution because Skarmory is pretty cool looking and one of my favorite bird types that doesn’t have an evolution. I think that if it were to evolve and get upgraded steel armor, it would look pretty sweet.
plus if they can, add some rocket launcher and some lazer beams with night vision goggles, a survival knife, some nuclear weapons, try to make it as close as Metal Gear Ray… that would be great nOn
