Happy Halloween, kiddies! After a tiresome two weeks we're at an end of this monster of a marathon. My final treat to you this month will be a personal favorite of mine, a manga series that really embodies the core values of Japanese horror as I see them.

Welcome to my Mischief Night review in this 13 Days of Halloween horror marathon! I usually try to avoid doing things like this in most cases, but for just tonight I'll stir up a little bit of trouble and take the time to bash a series that I really don't like.

Today I'm going over a touchy title, often cited as a masterpiece of Japanese Horror, and at the same time notorious for disappointing viewers who go in with the wrong expectations: Audition. Although I actually question my ability to reach that proper balance of favorable impression without stepping into over-hype territory, I will try my damnedest to get it somewhere around that ballpark.

I considered using Satoshi Kon's psychological thriller Perfect Blue, but I've sort of covered that before and I wanted something new. I considered another personal favorite, the little known Mononoke, but MollyBibbles covered that once already too.

Halloween countdown, Day 8: Today I'd like to step away from the monsters and the sci-fi and touch on a more modern take on horror. In the wake of the massively successful SAW film franchise the trend toward psychological thrillers, gruesome ultimatums, ultra-gore, and mind games became a major focus in some rings of the horror fan community.

Welcome back to the 13 Day Halloween countdown! It's day seven, our approximate half way mark. Today I'm covering Uzumaki (lit. "[the] Spiral" though sometimes referred to as "The Vortex"), by Junji Ito.

Day 6 and we're finally into the heat of it! In the past decade the zombie trend has really spread like a plague itself, but what many film goers and videogame fans don't realize is that the zombies themselves aren't the element of the trend that makes it so sensational.

Today we're going over a shorter film, a 25 minute piece released in 2005 by CoMixWave inc., the small studio that was relatively unknown before they picked up young underdog director, Makoto Shinkai, whom I have covered once already, and recently a second time for the English premiere of his latest film at Otakon 2011.
