Remember back in the day when Pokemon was a hot new thing and your weekday anime options were Dragonball Z in the morning, Sailor Moon in the afternoon and Speed Racer in the evening? No? I’m the only one here? Okay, fine.

So I went to Borders the other day at the behest of my friends. I immediately migrated towards the manga section – y’know, typical otaku reaction. It had been a while since I visited an actual book store, rather than buying my manga off Amazon or from half-priced book stores.

Welcome back to another week in The Rafters! Normally I try to give you the bird's eye view on the overarching careers of various artists, authors, and directors, but this week I'm taking things easy and highlighting just a small portion of one artist's long list of works.

I know, I know: I just wrote an article on how the localization of anime is probably a good thing even though it’s easy to fall back on “Americanization iz evul.” And, hard as it is to change my opinion after so many years suffering through bad, bad, bad dubs, I’ve come to the conclusion that there is a large number of shows that have benefitted from a more American-friendly script (Fruits Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist, Axis Power Hetalia and ...

Welcome to the Owl in the Rafters! In my past two updates I went over the careers of two very talented but sadly under appreciated artists: the first being Komi Naoshi, author and artist of the little known and short lived serial title Double Arts that ran in the weekly Shounen Jump for just 6 months, and the second being Yuusuke Murata, the artist of Eyeshield 21 a sadly overlooked sports title with more general appeal than the subject ...

Tyto, here! Welcoming you all to another installation of The Owl in the Rafters. Last time I covered the little known but much loved underdog artist/author, Komi Naoshi, and his lineup of heart warming one-shots, and one very special, but sadly short-lived serial title. I praised Naoshi as an up and coming artist to keep an eye for in the future of JUMP magazine, and this week I've got another buzz name to keep your eyes open ...
