It’s time to get super manly! This week’s Merry melodies focuses on the super intense opening for a super intense series, so run through cowboy!

One of the newest things to come out of Sentai Filmworks, I checked out Needless on a whim, since I’d heard news about Chris Patton coming back to be awesome. Then I heard the opening, and I was instantly hooked. I feel like Modern Strange Cowboy embodies the action that Needless throws at you right away. I haven’t heard too much else by Granrodeo as of yet, but it seems like my kind of music. Nice and fast paced and high energy.

I would have to say my favorite things about this song is the awesome guitar riffs. Usually with high intensity songs, you can always hear the guitar right in the forefront, and Granrodeo does a great job of having your attention right from the start. On top of that, the drums and bass provide a great supplement to not only the guitar, but the intense vocals as well. I’ll probably say this pretty often, but there are certain songs that I like to just sit back and listen to one specific instrument in particular. The drums are one of the easiest to just pick out and jam to.

Modern Strange Cowboy does a great job of not only getting you pumped, it also shows off just about every character in the show that you need to know. Some of them you won’t see for a while, but almost all of them are in there for a second or two. What it doesn’t always show you is that almost every character they show has an awesome super power that makes the show even more manly than you thought it was from seeing the opening alone. It also gives you a glimpse into just a small amount of fanservice that the show has to offer.
