EagleEyes’ Round Table – Gee Gee Gee Gee

Posted on Jun 30 2010

Today, boy bands dance, we clean off our collection of anime weapons and talk turn to K-On for the Anime of the Day. Sounds to me like EagleEyes’ new edition of the Weekly Round Table. So drop by, read on and share your thoughts as we find out what you the 91.8 Fanatics have to say.

Weekly award – Week 9:

Gee Gee Gee Gee – The Korean Effect

Some artists spend years finding their own sound, that one unique characteristic that sets them apart from everyone else. In Korea however the process is a little different and rather than setting yourself apart, it is important to fit in with people. A lot of people. Now behold as I have created a precise formula to create a popular Korean performer.

RULE NUMBER 1: Be from South Korea (As I don’t believe they are fond of music in the north…. well I don’t believe they are fond of many things really)

RULE NUMBER 2: Be in a group of at least 4 or more. The more members the less you will earn, but the harder it is to ignore a group of such size.

RULE NUMBER 3: Be attractive! (All groups are required to have one semi attractive member who makes all others seem more attractive via comparison)

RULE NUMBER 4: Dance in large groups and change clothes whilst doing so. Having magical powers does help in this situation, but so does having a good video editor.

Now for the Round Table rules: As usual, each participant is given a series questions covering various aspects in anime, manga, and Japanese culture. Each individual then has to provide their opinion on the said issue. Finally, I perfect the art of the fusion dance and a Round Table is born .

    Our Participants today are:

  • Team – Makes His Debut!
  • Ace – Is Seen Again!
  • Drago – Now With Spell Check!
  • V-Tan – DJ Shiny New
  • Marpolo – Marco?

What is your favorite weapon to have appeared in an anime series. Is it visually appealing or is it just an awesome way to kick butt?

Team – Katana is my favorite weapon to appear in some anime series cause the way the sword can cut through people. It is just an epic weapon to use in combat cause of its light weight and durability.

Ace – I had to think about this there are a lot of cool weapons out there from the awesome Bankai’s in bleach to the cool guns in Trigun but I will have to chose the silver skin from Buso renkin. It’s a weapon of defence to protect the person wearing it and you use your own fighting skill to beat you opponent. It’s kind of a different weapon then most so that’s what makes it cool. A lot of thought was put into it. It’s not about what kind of awesome attack it has but what defence it has.

Drago – Um I have seen a lot of awesome weapons but I would have to say it would be Fate Stay Night archers reality marble.

V-Tan – My personal favorite weapon from a series, that is a difficult one. As many series I watch that character rely on abilities, or proxy battling, or even a mech as their tools of choice. That being the case, I think I would have to choose Lagann from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann as my weapon of choice. Extremely versatile, and while it starts out looking like an awkwardly shaped head, it turns into something far greater.

Marpolo – Does a gundam count? If so then the strike freedom. If not then Byakuya Kuchiki’s zanpakuto.

Does the art style of a series affect whether or not you will watch a series? Would poor art work deter you from a good plot?

Team – The art don’t really affect the anime series I watch it’s more of how well the story starts off. The art can be hand drawn or digitally done as long as it has a good story to it.

Ace – Yes it does, I can watch anime with bad art but I’m less likely to pick it up and I don’t think I enjoy it as much. It’s like if you watch a live action movie with a bad camera man it just pulls you away from it and makes you think about how bad the style is and you just can’t get into the story as well as you could if it was good.

Drago – I don’t think it would, I mean if it had a great plot I would watch it.

V-Tan – Not at all. I have zero sense of ascetics, and as a result I usually don’t really notice. It is for this reason that shows and movies based on how pretty they are (Paprika is a good example) don’t have any sway on me whatsoever. Yet shows with crap art and a good story (Season 1 of Initial D) keep me hooked for life. Bad artwork will not stop me from watching a series, unless I find it just flat out ugly.

Marpolo – I would still watch it even if the art was poor as long as the story was interesting.

Which character do you best identify with if you were in a series. Are they a mirror image of you or a more enhanced version?

Team – Well this hard one I had to think on it for a bit I think I am more like Kenichi from Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple. Both me an him don’t like to fight unless it is unavoidable. Wanting to live a peaceful quiet life is another way we are similar.

Ace – The person I think I most identify with would be Vash from Trigun (without the awesome gunfighting skills) Cause I’m a goofy crazy kind of person and I believe everyone deserves a chance. He would be more of an enhanced version of me obviously because my arm doesn’t turn into a big cannon XD.

Drago – Um I really don’t have a character, besides the anime I just finished watching which is called Angel Beats the characters’ name is Yuzuru Otonashi. I kinda relate with him because I want to help people.

V-Tan – Tenkawa Akito from Martian Successor Nadesico. When I watched the series for the first time, I got pretty close to the end and started watching it again, but I did not finish it. I kept watching the series, but never got around to the final episode, until over a year later. For those who have not seen the series, there is a show within the show called “Gekigangar 3.” It is every cliché mecha anime put together, think Gatchaman, only specifically made to be hilariously bad. Akito, in the final episode of Nadesico, watches the episode finally. He holds a dialogue with the other characters about how he never wanted to see the show end. His form of escapism, a safe zone for his thoughts, and as he says it “I did not want the Gekigangar in my heart to ever die.” All in all, the episode was stupid, and he disliked it. Akito felt slightly disappointed, but he had no desire to let the fantasy die. Nadesico was my first series, and I unconsciously was doing the EXACT same thing with Nadesico as Akito did with Gekigangar. My thoughts and feelings mirrored the main character of something that has changed my life forever. I forever feel connected to Tenkawa for this reason.

Marpolo – The character would be Joe from the first season of Digimon he is a more enhanced version of me, except he is probably in better shape than me.

Has there been a series that you have always planned to watch, but for reasons have never got around to it. If so what series is it and is there more than 1?

Team – The anime series that I had planned to watch just have not gotten around to watching is K-on just really never had a chance to watch it.

Ace – Yes I have planned to watch black blood brothers I have seen the first episode and want to see the rest but I haven’t gotten around to it. There are a lot that I have planned to watch but only time will tell if I do pick them up and watch them.

Drago – There are so many series I have been wanting to watch like Black Lagoon Outlaw Star and many others.

V-Tan – Not really. Streaming is free, DVDs are cheap, Netflix/rentanime/animelane all have rent by mail systems and local libraries have more than you think,. My only concern is time. Most series get 2 episodes, if I don’t care for it, then I stop watching. Some stuff I wait for the entire series to be out, other things are worth watching week to week.

Marpolo – Burst angel is one that I’ve wanted for a while asl Sgt. Frog just to see if it’s as good as others say it is. And of course Afro Samurai just because it has Samuel L. Jackson.

Anime of the Day: K-ON. What are your thoughts / feeling on the series? Have you seen it? Do you plan to?

Team – Well I don’t have much I can say about that at the moment

Ace – It looks like a good anime I want to watch it but I haven’t yet maybe I will soon.

Drago – I have seen it and well, I would say lots of moe with good music.

V-Tan – It’s so hilarious! I love K-ON. Mainly because I love the voices of the characters and the over the top personality traits that they each posses. I have not seen season two (!!) due to lack of time, but it is on my plate, I will get to it soon.

Marpolo – It seems interesting, not sure if I will watch it though. If I remember to I will.
