Eagle Eyes’ Round Table – Epic Fail

Posted on Apr 04 2010

Greetings to all those in the land of 918 The Fan. EagleEyes here, starting off the first Round table of 2010. What are you going to be getting, you may ask? A little bit of this. A little bit of that. AND A WHOLE LOT OF FANATIC INTERACTION. If you have an opinion, if you want your voice heard, this is for you.

Weekly award – Week 1:
Epic Fail Award

Sakura Haruno – As of the latest Naruto release, it is apparent Masashi Kishimoto either:

a) hates women, or
b) hates Sakura.

Either way, she remains completely useless almost 500 chapters into the series, with no signs of EVER doing anything of importance. Will this pink haired konoichi ever get her chance to truly shine? I mean you can only dramatically cut your hair in a forest so many times…..

Now for the Round Table rules: Each participant is given 6 questions, covering various aspects in Anime, Manga, and Japanese culture. Each participant then has to answer, within the best of their abilities, without seeing what the others have written. Then I combine the answers with love and kindness, and thus a round table is born.

Our participants today are:
Oni –Anime Reviewer
Ace8489 –Forum Moderator
Yugiboy360 – DJ
Chris – Canadian

Rebel 1) What Anime series are you watching currently, or are planning to watch in the future? What are your thoughts on it so far?

Oni: I’m currently watching the Anime, Skip Beat, a romantic comedy. So far it seems to have me pretty drawn in, due to the fact that it doesn’t seem to follow the norm. The main character, Kyouko, is a unique specimen. Unlike a lot of characters who would probably blame their successes on themselves, even if pure coincidence, she actually recognizes when her success is not her doing. She’s bettering herself and not playing the stereotype, which I thoroughly like. The story seems to know just how much to tell, even knowing at times that a certain situation should stay the way it is and not be transformed into a comedic moment for the sake of it being a comedy (it can be serious, in other words).
I quite like it, most definitely picking up the Manga.

Ace: The anime that I am currently watching is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. So far it is really good but I’m waiting for it to diverge for the original Fullmetal Alchemist, an Anime I want to see in the future would have to be the Trigun movie, Trigun Badlands Rumble. The series was really great so I have high hopes for the movie. I hope they get the same voice actors.

Yugi: Well there are actually several that I’m currently watching. They would be Slap-up Party, Arad Senki, Yugioh 5D’s, Excel Saga, One Piece, Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad, and Destiny of the Shrine Maiden. I am also currently re-watching Ouran High School Host Club, and Angelic Layer. I am also planning on eventually watching Black Lagoon, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Chris: I’m currently watching Full Metal Alchemist which is an amazing series, and hoping to watch Hellsing, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, K-On among others in the future.

Rebel 2) What is your favorite Anime theme (beginning or ending), what series is it from, and what makes it better than any other in your opinion?

Oni: Hm, that’s a toughie. There are a few. Since you’re specifying the theme itself, and not the opening, I guess I’ll have to go with a tie between Pastel Pure from The Virgin Mary is Watching Over You (Maria-sama ga Miteru), and Last Regrets from Kanon 2006.
Both are very relaxing, however Last Regrets has a more dominant feel, whereas Pastel Pure feels much more flowey…if you can call that a description. I just think they’re very calming.
Pastel Pure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7yEt6UvQxk
Last Regrets: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkmHmKYtQb4

Ace: My favorite Anime theme would have to be the opening of Saiyuki For Real. I like it because Saiyuki is one of my favorite Animes, and I watched it so much that I learned the lyrics to it. It was also a really good opening, too.

Yugi: I know it sounds kinda weird and very out dated, but honestly, I think I would have to go with The English Shaman King Opening. I just liked the lyrics, it was always something that seemed somewhat interesting behind the lyrics. Another close call would be the ending theme to Excel Saga. One of the things that made me fall in love with that ending is who wouldn’t love a cute, singing dog singing about not wanting to be eating. It’s just so cute and funny at the same time.

Chris: Too many to even name! The few that come to mind are the first two openings for Naruto: Shippuden (Hero’s comeback, Bluebird) and in terms of endings, the second ending for Full Metal Alchemist.

Rebel 3) Is there an Anime series out there that you can’t stand, that you hate with a passion? A series you despise so much you would travel back in time to track down the original Manga sketches and burn them so that it never existed? If so what series is it and what is it about the series that annoys you?

Oni: Green Green would be an anime I can’t stand. Everything about it annoys me, it’s just that simple.

Ace: I have two Animes that I really hate. One is Excel Saga, I hate it so much. I hate it because it has no point and most of the people in it just annoy me. I’m not totally sure why other than that. The other Anime is Bobobo-bo bo-bobo, for the same reason I hate Exal Saga.

Yugi: I don’t really have a series like that, that I can think of. However, if I could go back in time and get rid f a company from ever being thought of, I would butcher whoever decided to start 4kids and their Anime butchering Service.

Chris: Not really. There hasn’t been a series I’ve disliked that much, although I was never a fan of One Piece.

Rebel 4) What interviews from Kana’s Korner have you enjoyed most? And who is the one person you would love to see Interviewed in the future?

Oni: Who says I watch any…nah, just kidding. It’d probably be the interview with KRROOOZZZEEE! I’d like to see the creator of Mega Man Abridged, Zero Master, interviewed. I’d also like to see the popular Youtube Let’s Player ‘Chuggaconroy’ be interviewed.

Ace: I liked the Vic Mignogna , Crispin Freeman and Takahata the most. I would like to see Greg Ayres be interviewed.

Yugi: Well I really enjoyed the interview with Little Kuriboh, actually, if not for him I would have never heard of the fan and met the great people I have. I enjoyed most of the ones that I could actually make, it’s just fun to listen to what each guest has to say about what they do. People that I would like to see in the future. Hmmm…I would defiantly have to say Felicia Day.

Chris: I really enjoy most of the interviews, two that really stick out in my mind are the Liam O’Brien interview and the Michelle Ruff interview.

Rebel 5) If you could select one older series to be remade (keeping the same characters and story but with newer animation and remastered audio) what would it be and why?

Oni: One older series eh?…Probably Infinite Ryvius. Yeah, it’s a 90’s series, however the animation could use a bit of work and the audio was awesome. Why would I want this? Well, it’s a great Anime and I’d like for more people to experience it.
Ranma ½ would also be a good choice too.

Ace: I think I would have to choose Dragon Ball Z or Akira. They are Anime classics, so to see them with updated animation and audio would be really cool. The animation wasn’t very good when it was made so I think it would benefit from it a lot and make me want to watch it even more.

Yugi: Hmmmm thats a toughy. I think I would possibly have to say MedaBots, I loved that show and it great but the animation could have been better. I think the action scenes could be one hundred times better than when it was first made.

Chris: If it wasn’t already happening, I would have said Dragon Ball Z, but the original Digimon series is something I would love to see re-done. Simply because it’s a series that I grew up with, and that really got me into Anime, and I think the kids today should experience it! Without any of that 5th season stuff, which didn’t even feel like Digimon.

Rebel 6) Who is your favorite Anime character of all time? OF ALL TIME? Why is this character different to any other, and what makes them stand above the others?

Oni: Of all time…is it safe to say Evangeline A.K. McDowell from Negima!? (By which I mean, Negima!). She’s an awesome loli vampire who’s been around for many hundreds of years. She’s clearly a power house and can even take out gods at will. Her only downfall is that she is locked to the Mahora Academy area, so she doesn’t get my panel-time outside of chapter that take place at Mahora.
She’s extremely well mannered, feisty, wise and loli-tastic. For an added plus, her best friend is a freaking robot. A robot! Did I mention she is the sole reason why the main character, Negi, is as strong as he is now thanks to her?
Yep, she’s gotta be my favourite.

Ace: My favourite character of all time would have to me Son Goku from Saiyuki. I like he because he is one of the funniest characters out of the Anime that I have seen. He just seems different from most Anime. I also would have to say Kazuki Muto from Buso Renkin. He is the most inspiring character of any Manga I have ever read, in a word he is awesome. He takes being a shonen character to the next level.

Yugi: Hmmm….I’m not sure who my fave of all time is…I think I might have to say Ohjiro or Icchan from Angelic Layer because “ICCHAN GO BOOM.”

Chris: If it’s not apparent by now, one of my favorite characters is Fai D. Flourite from Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. Besides Fai, I’m also a huge fan of Light Yagami (Death Note), Shikamaru Nara (Naruto), Kakashi Hatake (Naruto), and Suzaku Kururugi (Code Geass)

And so ends our journey today If you would like to ask a question for a future round table, or possibly answer some questions yourself leave a comment bellow, or send me a message on the forums right here at 91.8 The Fan.

@EE: its bugged me for so long that Sakura-chan never grew along with her other 2 team members. Perhaps she was never given the proper lofty goal. Your *Fail* award is well given.

@Yugiboy: “Wings of an angel! Please guide me and Hikaru!” – Angelic Layer seems to be girls playing with dolls and I can’t believe I liked it! CLAMP/Bones did a great job with it. A prequel to also enjoyable Chobits if any cares.

@ ToyNN: I always liked Sakura, but every time she shows a tiny chance of being helpful, she fails. I personally think its either lazy writing, or simply in Naruto teenage girls aren’t very good ninjas.
