Simulblast Winter 2014 Week 006

We’ve reached the halfway point for the Winter season. What does that mean? Read on to find out!

This week’s challenge: Write your review like a stereotypical anime girl (your flavor of moe, tsundere, yandere, etc is up to you!).

Simulblast Wake Up, Girls!

Ah, yes, we’re stuck with this weird drama from the last episode I don’t understand. Get on with it, already! This blonde, jerk-wad, glasses wearing bimbo is using stupid chef metaphors to try and take control of the group Wake Up, Girls! He’s a music producer named Tasuku Hayasaka and he works often with I-1 Club, which essentially means he’s just going to screw you over! Oh, never mind, Tange invited them to Green Leaves Entertainment anyway.

This Tasuku guy does this leg-lift-up thing when he crosses his legs; it makes my eyes roll. I hate how mind-numbing it is. His random English too is just… ugh. This Tasuku guy is going to evaluate each one of these girls and make them feel like crap. No good comes from someone like that. Though this guy is pushing them, which is something Tange hadn’t really been doing. He’s forcing them to preform three concerts every two weeks, which is pretty nuts, but realistically isn’t far-fetched… I’m watching this guy, but he might not be so bad.

The very fact that this Tasuku guy has full control over Wake Up, Girls! for certain periods and they can’t complain… I don’t like it, he’s a jerk! Forget if I said anything nice about him at all. Mostly when he’s thinking of cutting Airi, but realistically she doesn’t seem like she’d be that popular to begin with.

This training is affecting the other work that the girls do. Finally this loser pulls Airi aside to most likely give her the bad news. He essentially states that she might not have any talent and would be better suited in the audience. Despite echoing his concerns, I still think he’s still a frickin’ jerk! It doesn’t matter if he’s right; he could have at least said it nicer; what a loser. Mayu waits for Airi, but she’s so emotionally shell-shocked she instead refuses to go with her and heads to the store.

Then we get to see I-1 Club’s meeting with their goofy-looking president, oh joy. Can’t anything good happen? All this guy begins to say is that even though their concert in Sendai was sold out, three people didn’t show up, and he blames this on Wake Up, Girls! having their own concert the same day. Really? Even the girls of I-1 Club begin to giggle at the notion.

Wake Up, Girls! is doing their three-concerts-a-day thing, but Airi looks down. Keep fighting! She takes a fall like a hammer, and this Tasuku guy just continues to insult their lack of talents. Miyu essentially says that she can’t grow without praise, and I can agree with that since the girls are essentially being bullied into failure. With the drop of a hammer, this man finally drops Airi from the group, and the girls are rightly furious. He threatens to fire all of them if they don’t continue with the lesson.

While I agree with Tasuku’s assessment on Airi, it’s not like I like his character or anything. In fact, if the next episode doesn’t have the girls stomping out, I will be pretty upset. Once again, the whole thing feels like a major downer. I can’t even pick out highlights to like besides Matsuda insulting this music producer. Matsuda always seems to be the only character that really makes me happy at the end of the day, along with a little bit of Miyu now and then. Perhaps if the series continues to grow, it might become a more positive showing. There are a lot of happy characters and aspects that can lead to really interesting scenarios that are feel good. I hope we see that in the future and then I might actually love Wake Up, Girls! instead of thinking it was merely an okay show.

So as some of you may or may not know, Bobby attacked me. Bobby-senpai no Baka! Never fear, much screaming and kicking later, I feel I’ve gotten my revenge. He may be sporting a few new bruises. (Just kidding, no DJ’s were hurt in the process of writing this review or before it.) I will, however, be talking a lot about the music in this episode. N… Not like I like talking about that sort of thing or anything.

I guess the first thing I should talk about is the opening. I guess it’s sort of cute; It really helps set the tone be really upbeat all the time. I guess if you guys need me to tell you what it’s called, I could say that it’s called “Won (*3*) Chu Kissme!” and it’s sung by the shows cast. I think it’s really a cute song… not that I like cute songs or anything! Shut up!

They’re preparing for the Cultural Festival making costumes for their play. They aren’t making very much progress at all. I’ve never really noticed this before, but this show has what you could call a very slice of life soundtrack. I almost expect the Haruhi Suzumiya soundtrack to kick up in the background of these scenes at any point. I can’t say this is a bad thing; it fits the scenes very well. With their complete lack of progress, they decide to stay at the school overnight to work. I sense a test of courage of sorts coming up.

Oh this part of the episode is going to focus more around Shizuku and Katone; that’s so amazing! I love seeing some focus given to the side characters! I mean…It’s cool. I suppose. Haruka has a totally strange domestic dream which ends with Yuu with a baby; I’ve heard of M-preg before, but two girls like this is a new one for me.

There is a really sweet scene of Katone and Shizuku on the roof where we find out a little more of what Shizuku was like when she was in middle school. The music is sweet and sounds like it’s being made with a keyboard and a harp. It really sets the romantic mood between them. They talk about how everything is more fun when they’re together. I really like them as a couple, while I find Yuu annoying and Haruka a little obsessed. I think these two are honestly really in love with each other.

The part ends with Haruka and Yuu kissing each other; what else is new. You know what I honestly would like out of these series? Something like the Junjou Romantica/Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi setup of dedicating a few episodes per couple. That way I could get an evenly fair share of the main couple and the side couple. N-Not that I’m really interested. You guys are being stupid!

In part two of the episode we are going to get to the play at last. This is bound to be all kinds of hilarious; I just hope it has the music tracks to match. Somehow the part of the witch was played by both Shizuku and Yuu. Not exactly sure how that one managed to pan out. After they spent so much time building this play up, I’m kind of let down that it was played as straight as it was. Not that I was excited to see them screw it up or anything… Okay, I totally was.

The music strikes up the drama as we find out that Yuzu seems to know a lot more about Yuu then anyone would have thought. Speaking of the music, I looked it up, and the soundtrack’s release date has yet to be announced; however the opening and ending singles are both released right now. Perhaps we should work on requesting them for the station?

We find out why Kaede has been the class rep as she has. Yuu is a total flake and bribes Haruka with her hair clip to go out with her to check out the stalls after snubbing her earlier to go out with her sister. She looks really strange with only one hair-clip. I hope it won’t stay that way for the next episode.

It’s not a anime cultural festival without at least one insert song. I wonder if it’s going to be on the soundtrack. It’s pretty muted so we can hear the girls talking, but from what I can hear it sounds really cool. Too short; we most certainly need more of this song. The girls kiss through the whole song and even longer. The preview comes and promises us swimsuit fan-service next episode! N-not that I really want to see that or anything!

The music for this show is pretty generic slice of life music, I’ve heard the tones it sets millions of times in animes like Haruhi or Fruits Basket. It doesn’t bother me, though; the familiar tones of soft piano music for the love bits and the… well I’m not exactly sure what instrument is used for the comical bits. A tuba? I’m not the best with musical instruments past the flute, harp and piano. The music really sets the tone, and a less slice-of-life soundtrack would feel sort of out of place. I just tried matching it up to the Psycho-Pass soundtrack in my head; it doesn’t work. We’ve hit the sort of halfway point of this series, and my opinion of it really hasn’t changed from the beginning. It’s cute. N-not that I like cute things, because I don’t. Also, Bobby is a big mean stupid idiot for attacking me, and he won’t know when it’s coming, but my revenge will be swift! (Still no DJ’s were harmed in the writing of this review.)

Ohmigod! Gunpla is SOOOO kakkoiiiiiii~ ^_^

We even get to see the fight between Luang and the twins? I don’t know which is more sugoi, I mean, Luang is supa supa desu, but twins ^_^ bishies!!!

But which bishounen makes my kokoro go more doki doki doesn’t matter, because twins win!

*para para dances to the OP* GM’s are so motto sugoi. Just had to say it watching the OP again, desu!

Mr.Ral and Fellini hang out together? *hides shonen ai doujin* I would never have expected it uguuuuu~ This episode is sooo exciting ^3^

Mao Reiji and Sei are all talking and it looks like Mao is over his loss. He’s super happy for a date with misaki! cute couple alert, wwwwwww~

At the same time China and Sei are shopping OTP! (Sei’s mom agrees, it’s totally canon). At the same time they spot Aila! They start a conversation and then Reiji shows up. Double Date desu! But they don’t know she’s Aila Jyrkiainen, so she says her name is Aina. Of course they all go Tsun Tsun on eachother.

At the same time Meijin (dreamy!) and Allan (double dreamy) are studying the fight between the twins and Luang. *hides other shonen ai manga* I’m sure that’s all they were doing >_>

Meanwhile, now Aila and Reiji have finished off more sweets than Goku could. Mao is sad from his date because he tried to move too quick with Misaki and got a slap for his troubles. Uguuu~

Next up! Twins vs. Meijin! Fight fight Fight Kiss Kiss Kiss… ^///^

The GM may be sugoi, but the Kampfer is kakkoi! I’m so excited desu! Immediately Meijin takes out three large towers since they could snipe from there.

It’s robo dog time! Kakkoi mecha inu deeeesu! Before then, though, they sniped out one of the Kampfer’s guns. It dashed after them but got attacked by the dog. To retaliate, he blew up the building they sniped from. It seems at every turn Meijin is caught off guard, barely able to keep up.

The Kampfer hides out in a busted up building, but it seems the K9 pack has scale models of Soldiers with backpacks, and they plant bombs on the Kampfer. The twins move in, thinking they’ve won, but the joints have been greased to protect them from planted bombs, so they couldn’t stick to the Kampfer. The GM powers up with the EXAM system used to combat new types and they fight it out with beam sabers. supa kakkoi!

The GM lands some shallow blows, and the K9 adds covering fire. It doesn’t look good for Meijin OxO

But Mejin never gives up and attacks the GM with a Gatling gun. The GM exlpodes, but the K9 is still active. Meijin rolls to the side, grabbing a rifle and shooting straight through the K9.

It’s victory, but he’s disappointed for letting the Kampfer get as damaged as it did.

*dances to the ED* ( ^-^)/

After the ED we see Baker plotting Sei and Reiji’s failure vs. Nils! Oh noeeesssss~

Next episode, super mega battle desuuuuu~!

Nobunagun (Episode Six)
Player: Bobby Henshin

Simulblast Nobunagun

A large military airplane carrier flies over the mountains of the Himalayas. Episode 6 starts in the middle of a blizzard. Inside we meet three individuals known as Team 1. First, we meet Gaudi. He is the reincarnation of Antoi Gaudi. He is talking with the pilots of the helicopter about the new recruit, Nobunagun, and how hot she is. Oh wait! I’m supposed to sound like a stereotypical anime girl while I do this review. Let’s see now… okay! So here is a history lesson for you on Antoni Gaudi; not like I’m wanting to help you or anything! Antoni Gaudi was a was born in 1852 and died in 1926. He was the figurehead of Catalan Modernism, a form of artistic architecture involving nature and religion. His magnum opus, still uncompleted to this day, is the Sagrada Familia. Did you get that? Because if you fail this test you’ll have me to answer to, i-idiot.

But, continuing on, we meet Cyx. I’m not going to lie, she looks like a carbon copy of Newton; like, except for the hair style, they could be twin sisters. She is the reincarnation of…what?! You couldn’t find any info on who Cyx is? How much of an idiot are you? Actually I have no idea who she is the reincarnation of. The only info it gives me is a form of Mongolian music, but her power is to turn into a mini tank so… I doubt that’s it. The final member is the leader of the team, who they call princess. She is the reincarnation of Geronimo or “The One Who Yawns.” He was the leader of the Bedonkohe Apache who fought against Mexico and the United States for their expansion into Apache tribal lands for several decades during the Apache Wars. Her powers are still a little unknown because you don’t get to see it properly. Did you get all that? Because I am not repeating it.

The plane goes down thanks to the snowstorm and is now stranded in the Himalayas. Geronimo and Cyx go to search for help while leaving Gaudi to watch over the container, which we all assume holds a Invasionary Object. They come across what looks like a research center. They are met by a creepy looking scientist who is all alone. They ask to use the radio and they are given food and shelter. This scientist is beyond creepy. He keeps on asking about about monsters and if they have one. When they attempt to use the radio, it doesn’t work. They realize that the radio was tampered with. They also found blood stains on the ceiling. The decided to head back to Gaudi when they are attacked by the scientist in a giant snow plow. They are cornered into a garage where they find a camcorder. Turns out they were other scientists at this research center and they played a trick on the now creepy scientist into thinking that they fed him meat from one of the Invasionary Objects. This is what caused Mr. Creepy Pants to murder all the other scientists and get back to the other objects. The scientist now heads for the downed plain to release the object. When they reach the plain they are met by a crying Gaudi and the scientist dead on the tip of the spear nose of the Invasionary Object. With their combined powers they killed the object and reflect on how they would even stoop to that kind of madness if put in the same situation as they travel by rescue helicopter back to base.

This episode is mostly just character introduction. So don’t look to much into it okay? Well, I guess that’s it. So you better keep watching or I’ll get mad…i-idiot. All anime-girling aside, it was okay as an episode but nothing special. I’ll see you all next week.

Simulblast Engaged To Unidentified

This week’s episode of Engage The Unidentified starts off with horrible, horrible news! Hakuya and Mashiro-tan don’t have hybrid forms! It’s just human or animal forms. No super kawaii animal ears for anyone! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! We also learn that Hakuya doesn’t want to reveal his animal form to Kobeni. He doesn’t want to alienate Kobeni with his supernatural abilities.

While Benio deals with the lack of animal ears, Mashiro-tan goes on an epic quest to complete a set of small monster toys. Despite her best efforts, she’s doomed to fail! Watching her cry about it is so cute! Kobeni also wonders about her future. She makes a great housewife, but isn’t there something more she could do? While she worries about her future she must contend with the present and it’s time for a Valatine’s episode! The stench of romantic comedy rears its ugly head once gain.

Time for Kobeni to make chocolate for all of her friends and family; and that includes Hakuya. Kobeni never gave girlfriend chocolates before! Would Hakuya even like chocolates since he doesn’t enjoy sweets? Kobeni is being such a baka over the whole thing! Eventually Hakuya learns that not getting chocolates is a sign of rejection and becomes bummed out since he didn’t get chocolates from Kobeni. Of course he gets some by the end of episode and is quite happy to have them.

With Kobeni and Hakuya slowly building their relationship, who will Benio go to for her moeh fix!? Mashiro-tan, that’s who! She makes a great waifu! Who wouldn’t’ want her for a waifu?

Simulblast Kill La Kill

What’s going on, my internet dwelling friends? Knightshade is back again with another super awesome, super cool, super mind blowing episode to review. OMG it’s going to be so cool!!! So let stop talking and do some watching! This is Kill La Kill episode 18!

After freeing all the trapped students and citizens from the Life Fibers’ ball things, the Elite Four fight against Nui while Mako helps with the evacuation. Thank you, Elite Four; I want Nui dead and her head on my desk by Monday, class dismissed. Meanwhile, Satsuki reveals how Ragyo had used her in Life Fiber experiments, along with her newborn sister, who was discarded by Ragyo when the experiment allegedly failed. However, Ragyo, who is able to heal her injuries, breaks free and takes control of the students, turning them into her personal super evil army of evil.

As Aikuro and Tsumugu fight against them, Ragyo takes control of Ryuko, pitting her against Satsuki, but Ryuko manages to break out of it with her own will by punching herself in the face. It seems like people in this show really like hurting themselves in the latter half of this series. Anyway, Ryuko fights against Nui while Satsuki goes up against Ragyo, slicing off her head. I feel like that should’ve been accompanied with that announcer from Mortal Kombat saying “Fatality”. However, Ragyo survives getting her god forsaken head cut off due to her Life Fiber still being attached! I call hacks! She completely overpowers Satsuki and steals her Junketsu for herself. As the COVERS appear in the sky, Ragyo pulls out Ryuko’s heart, which is covered in Life Fibers, revealing her to be Ragyo’s presumed deceased daughter.

OMG this was an awesome episode! Where do I start? The awesome exposition telling us that mankind is doomed to be enslaved by clothing?! The awesome new Elite Four suits, which look super cool if I do say so myself?! The awesome fight scenes throughout this episode which, let’s be frank, they’re all SUPER AWESOME! The somewhat tragic backstory of the supposed dead daughter/sister? Or the part of the show where Ragyo goes all kalmia on Ryuko, showing her her own heart and, not only that, revealing her to be Ragyo daughter and Satsuki sister?! Well, it was all awesome! I’m giving this 10 ripped out hearts out of 10! Give me more; must have more! I can’t wait for next week!

Also @Bobby I don’t know who Cyx is supposed to be either. I’m assuming something to do with motorcycles, but I don’t even really know because I kept getting Honda motorcycles when I typed it in.
