Special Announcement – Good-Bye To The Dreamer

Posted on Jul 05 2010

We have a rather serious announcement amongst the convention season craziness, and as such we request that all of our readers please check out the following:

91.8 The Fan was created almost three years ago as an idea by Matthew Eis (known more fondly as Sandgolem) after a hectic trip to AnimeExpo. While Kibs and myself hopped along for the ride, this simple idea became a very much shared dream by all of us. Between the three of us we’ve put in finances, countless hours of work, and have met some wonderful people along the way. I, personally, feel lost without our team and all the hard work they do, as they have equally sacrificed a lot of their lives for the site you all know and love today.

Though, I’m sure you’re wondering “why the sentimental story time?”

While it is still a startling shock for the staff and many others close to the project, we would like to announce that Sandgolem will be stepping down from his position as CEO. Due to circumstances beyond our control, the individual who originally birthed this vision will be focusing on his personal life. Respectfully, Kibs and myself will be taking over the reins of the site, and our door is always open for Sandgolem if he ever wants to come back to us.

Due to this event, there will be some slight changes to our weekday radio schedule, they are as follows:

  • Christmas Morning – 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM PDT/PST
  • Kana’s Korner – 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM PDT/PST
  • The Revolution – 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM PDT/PST
  • Toon World – 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM PDT/PST
  • Scheduled maintenance – 12:00 AM to 2:00 AM PDT/PST
  • Lite’s show – 2:00 AM to 4:00 AM PDT/PST
  • DS’ Hangover – 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM PDT/PST

These changes will happen immediately, and as such you can hear your favorite weekday DJ at their new timeslots. Weekend DJs will not see a change, and as such their schedules will remain untouched. As a note, our scheduled maintenance does not mean the radio will be going down. In fact, we will be adding new music and cleaning the clogs of the system during this time. A DJ will still be in attendance making sure that your favorite tunes are being played.

For those who have been waiting, there will be some various updates to the site. This includes some organization, revamping of certain sections, and overall making our goals more clear to visitors of 91.8 The Fan. We will also be adding new sections between now and the end of the year, which is currently confidential~

I (Kibs) will personally be adding new features to the forums, be on the lookout for some new and interesting ways to show your colors around 91.8 The Forums. I will also be working with the staff to bring you more of your favorite content, as well as moving forward with bringing you more game reviews, and video content from all of the staff. We also haven’t forgotten about you Fanatics, more and more Fanatic content and benefits are being planned and added all of the time.

As a final note, we must thank everyone for bearing with us through this change. All we ask is for your continued support whether it be by linking, commenting, sending us e-mails, posting on the forums, retweeting our Twitters, liking our Facebook posts, becoming a Fanatic, and everything else under the sun. For those who wish to help the site evolve during this time, we implore you to post your thoughts below on what you want to see. By taking the time to answer honestly and at length, you are helping us make a better place for you! If that isn’t enough, be on the look out as new job positions will be opening on the site soon. Thank you very much for your continuous support!

Sincerely,
Kana, Kibbles & The 91.8 The Fan Team

Wow! I knew something was going on with Sandy not appearing on air or in IRC for the past week, but I never expected this!

This is a sad sad day for 918. T.T

I take it it’s probably work related.

We will miss you Sandy and all your failgolmenness! Please keep in touch in the IRC.

Well, Sandy, thanks for sharing your time and expertise with those of us out in etheral world. Hmmm….young and wanting a life not 100% anime driven. Welcome to real life adventures, Kiddo. Have a great ride along the way!

  • Cameron July 5, 2010 at 11:15 AM

Dang… This is some pretty sad news… I hope whatever he’s doing turns out well and good and such.

A total surprise, I thought everyone was just so busy with AX and now this bomb. I’m deep in the background but a Fanatic listener so I’ll truly miss the Sand-storm and anime trivia questions and the top-40 countdown that were part of Sandgolem’s vision and shows. I sure hope the site/station can make it through the major change and that we will see/hear Sandy back on 918thefan sometime in the future.

We’ll miss you Sandy! I wish the best for you in your future endeavors, and I hope we’ll see you around the IRC every once in a while. Again, best of luck to you, and thank you so much for the work you’ve put into getting 91.8 The Fan to what it is today.

Wow, Sandy. I know you have been super-passionate about this project & it is amazing what has grown out of your idea. I know this was a really hard decision for you to make – it takes a lot of guts to make a call like that. Kibs & Kana are really professional, so I know they’re going to continue to do well. Keep in touch, man. :3

  • Excalibur July 6, 2010 at 9:56 PM

You will be missed, good sir.

  • Kate July 8, 2010 at 4:25 PM

I figured something was going on when I had a rare chance to jump on the IRC for a few minutes. Whatever is going on in real life for you, Sandy, I hope you can tackle it and return once more. We’ll miss you, Sandy. Hope you can come back someday in the future. We’ll always be here. =]

Man, this sucks to come back to. D:
