Why Can’t Wii Be Friends Award – Failure by design

Three consoles. Three different philosophies. One goal, to rake in as much cash as humanly possible.

This week’s award is the result of an epiphany. Sitting here looking through my collection of games this generation, I have no urge to replay many of them, let alone the desire to go find something new. I hate this generation of gaming. I mean sure each console has it’s selected gems, but is it worth diving through the mound of putrid garbage to find?

Has the nostalgia of gaming worn off? Or is it that games are not as innovative as they once were?

And what reasoning do the developers have to make an innovative game? NONE. None what so ever. Why spend years developing a game to get slightly above average sales when it is just as easy to tweak your current project every year with a brand new installment? Sadly game developers don’t need to reinvent the wheel when a copy pasta attempt will work just fine. In the end money is money.

Now for the Round Table rules: As usual, each participant is given a series questions covering various aspects in anime, manga and Japanese culture. Each individual then has to provide their opinion on the said issue. Finally, I realize I haven’t done one of these in a really long time.

Welcome aboard as staff on 91.8 The Fan. Now that you are with us, let us get to know you a little better. Tell us a little about yourself, and tell us how long you long you have been with the site.

• Haku – I’ve been with 91.8 The Fan since the beginning of October, and I’m a programmer. I made the BrieBot in the irc. >.>’
• Sound Breaker – G’Day! My name’s Breaker, and I’ve been with the site since March of 2010. I’m looking for a smart, funny, cute girl aged 20-24 with an interest in Australians. Hair colour is not important.
• Twilly – Hmmm.. Hi, I’m Twillÿ, I like starfish, cupcakes and I am a DJ and stuff. I’ve been a member of the site since late April of this year, but I have been a part of the staff and DJ’ing since August, so about 3 months.*coughDragocough*
• Sailor Moon – Well, I’ve been signed up on the forums since January 5 of this year, I also mod on the Risembool Rangers, and I co-run a fangroup for Kevin M. Connelly as well. I have 3 kids, and we all love anime, and video games. I am married, and while my hubby isn’t really a fan of anime, he puts up with it. He’ll also play a game with me occasionally lol. I’m pretty laid back, like to have fun, and try to be the best person I can!
• Stellar Hush – I like (colors) sky blue, indigo, and sea green. I don’t know my blood type. My three favorite things to eat/drink are pizza, sushi and smoothies. Oh and cherries. I’ve been with the site since early this year I think. Time sure does fly when you’re around good people, well, that and I have no concept of time 😀

What can the Fanatics expect from your show, and when can they tune in to see it?

• Haku – My show is on Saturdays and Sundays at 8am-12pm PST, and you can expect stuff from my show as soon as I think of it. I’m still planning everything. But I like games and Square-Enix, so maybe stuff related to that? Or maybe not…
• Sound Breaker – You cannot be prepared for the things you’ll hear on my show. I’m not sure when I’m on. Eagle dude, what time is my shift?
• EagleEyes – 4am – 8am PST
• Twilly – Well, my show is called Operation Starfish and they can expect, well.. starfish! Awesomeness! Starfish! More starfish! A starfish in a top hat and much more! Oh, I also run the Top 40 Countdown every Friday night as well as a word scramble game in the IRC twice a week, aptly named, “Starfish Scramble”. They can catch my show every weeknight from 8pm to 12am PST.
• Sailor Moon – I will more than likely play popular songs, and throw in a random one once in a while! I may take a few requests, if there’s people awake and on to make them…. which leads to the next part of this answer. My show, Moon’s Prism Power Show, will be on 12 am to 4 am PST, or 2 to 6 am Central!
• Stellar Hush – They can tune in on weekends from 12 to 4 pm PDT. They can expect a few fails seeing as how I’m just getting started, but I hope to have an entertaining show. I’ll be covering all things One Piece. I’ll probably also talk about games and other anime that have captured my interest or that I’ve seen. So, I’m going to say that in general, they should expect a somewhat random listening experience.

What is your favorite anime series and what type of anime do you usually watch?

• Haku – I’m very indecisive, so I don’t really have a “favorite,” but I do like a lot of anime shows. I usually watch anime that make me depressed, because those anime characters have much better lives than I do. >.>’ So much more excitement, and better friends.
• Sound Breaker – Favourites. There is never just one. These rotate, but usually include Gurren lagann, Chromartie High School, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, old-school Transformers, Samurai Champloo, and Macross Plus. Usually, however, my favourite genre of anime is anything with giant robots.
• Twilly – Really hard to pick a top, so I’ll give you three; Lucky Star, Clannad and Cowboy Bebop. I typically enjoy slice of life and comedy. Basically anything with funny or cute characters in it. ^^
• Sailor Moon – Sailor Moon, of course! I watch a little of everything, if the first ep has me hooked, I’ll usually finish the series.
• Stellar Hush – My favorite anime series is One Piece. For all time, all the way across the sky. Usually I watch anything that looks good or that I’ve heard good stuff about.But I would have to say the most of any genre I watch is comedy.

Who is your favorite anime character? Do you personally identify with them or are they just plain amazing?

• Haku – Again, I’m indecisive about these things, so the main character of whatever I’m currently watching, unless I don’t like it. >.>’ I happen to like Swords, though, so characters with Swords tend to become my favorites, as well.
• Sound Breaker – “A true man doesn’t die, even if he’s killed!!” – Kamina, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
• Twilly – This one is a no-brainer for anyone who has ever talked to me, like.. ever, but for those of you who may have not; Fuko Ibuki! Oh and to answer the other question.. BOTH! Our personalities are quite similar and she is just simply AMAZING! <3 ((Let it be noted, I also strongly identify with both Konata Izumi from Lucky Star and Nanaho Kinjo from Best Student Council, but we'll go with Fuko for this one))
• Sailor Moon – Usagi Tsukino! I both identify with her extremely well, and think she’s a BAMF haha!
• Stellar Hush – I have two answers for this one. My favorite anime character, that’s just amazing, would have to be Brooke from One Piece. The character that I identify the most with (and also like) would have to be Shuichi Shindou.

Who are some of you favorite artists from the site? What sort of music can we expect from you shift?

• Haku – I like most of the artists from the site, and as for what you can expect, I mostly choose artists I’ve heard of, or think the name sounds interesting. As I learn what everyone likes, though, I’ll start trying to appease my listeners, rather than myself, for at least an hour. ^^
• Sound Breaker – I’m into the hip-hop, metal, rock, and funk, so that’s mostly what you’ll hear on my show (apart from the random songs I add to discover exactly what they are).
• Twilly – I enjoy quite a lot, but some favorites would have to be..

• Stellar Hush – Well,there’s Gackt,Ai Otsuka,Mika Nakashimi, and there are others. I just can’t remember their names at the moment. You can expect more mellow music from my shift, maybe some upbeat music too.

Finish this sentence: If I was stuck on a deserted island with only one thing, it would be ……

• Haku – An escape route. Possibly a Helicopter, fully equipped with Gasoline and a pilot.
• Sound Breaker – A way off. 😉
