You could always look into finding an IRC client such as mIRC and configure it to the 918 IRC.
But don't forget to check this first: http://918thefan.com/irc-chat/irc-faq/ It's the 918 IRC faq, if you haven't already checked there I hope you figure out what the connectivity problems are.
