ic - Art Critique Thread

We have a lot of personal threads, and some general threads, but I figure a thread to post art for critique would be a good idea. Of course it would be lame to open this up without a piece to critique, so here's one I just made.
This is for serious critique, so don't post if you can't take negative comments on your stuff. Also, please don't turn this into a dA pat on the back fest. be cruel people! (Well not cruel, but seriously critical)

Re: ic - Art Critique Thread

Refine your technique. The area around the forehead (brows, bangs) looks awkward. The nose is too pointy and the neck does not slope at the bottom like that.

*throws down hat*

GOOD DAY SIR!!

Re: ic - Art Critique Thread

such a simple and stylized piece is really hard to critique. My advice is to drawdrawdrawdrawdraw. Study dem muscles and bones, yo.

Especially around the neck. The neck is composed of muscles and bones that are all connected to each other. The vagueish swishy lines in your original drawing don't really look like anything at all.

THANK YOU! I was hoping for a redline. I have a bunch of Loomis, but I haven't had a chance to read through it all yet.

Loomis is great, but I feel he's a little over-rated. You should also read Burne Hogarth's books, and Eliot Goldfinger (yes that's his name) - Human Anatomy for artists.

Those are just some of the books I recommend. PM me if you want more.

Edit: Rules, read them please.

User edit: All right, look. Downloading books by dead people is not "hurting the industry," as these books went out of print 30-50+ years ago and all of the authors are DECEASED. Not to mention I took special care not to link to the books in mind. (I did read the rules, took mind of not linking, and didn't realize that just talking about it was considered "hurting the industry.") You can't find good art instruction books in stores nowadays, it's all "How to Draw Manga XVII" or something.

I saw some of Loomis' books, I didn't think they went in depth enough so I'll check out the books that you recommended to try them out.
