Re: Movies and Vampires
Sometimes you just got to fear for the generation coming up. They don't even try to look back anymore, if it's not in their face, it didn't exist for them.

Re: Movies and Vampires
It begs to be mentioned tho even not related to Vampire that edward alan poe was one of the best writers of horror ever. He prayed upon the humans most basic fears like when u feel some1 is right behind and u turn around to find nothin wich only makes u more scared kinda thing. He was truly a genius

Re: Movies and Vampires
Edgar Allan Poe is epic... Steven King is good... but i could never read another one of his books after Bag Of Bones.. i am scared they would never live up to the mind f--k.
Orson Scott Card is my favorite author hands down for the Ender series and The Maker series. I read twilight, bad writing, fun story, shitty ending. True Blood and Vampire Diaries come from awesome books. Actually enjoying the TV series (Sookie) Favourite Vampire movies tho are John Carpenter's Vampires Horror of Dracula Interview with a Vampire Bram Stoker's Dracula. One of the best work of writting horror was done by a young Mary Shelly tho. |

Re: Movies and Vampires
I'd call Frankenstein more of a tragedy than a horror story.

Re: Movies and Vampires
I think we can all agree this is awesome and completely true. Hilarious webcomics on the matter aside, I just think the big vampire craze is just the latest in the Hollywood Undead Cycle that I've noticed. In 1999, The Mummy series started out and was sort of "the thing" for a bit. And then in 2004, we got that Dawn of the Dead remake which triggered a wave of zombie apocalypse films. And then shortly thereafter, we got Van Helsing and the Underworld movies which had a big focus on werewolf fiction but also started the new vampire cycle, which is sort of where we are right now. Way I sees it, this is the kind of cycle we're gonna be going through. Once the vampire thing is really played out, we'll move onto something else and then eventually mummies, werewolves and then vampires again.

Re: Movies and Vampires
I think that if a movie is about vampires than it should be a horror/mystery. Unless its a Rosario Vampire movie than it should just be about harems and hot girls.

Re: Movies and Vampires
I loved Blade and Underworld. Interesting modern twists on how vampires evolved and adapted to the present day.
All these new movies aren't badass in any such ways (maybe besides daybreakers, but I've yet to watch it). They're all soppy love stories. Which I wouldn't mind, as long as they're harems like stated above. But they aren't. They're reversed. Which just makes me loose the ** that most badass vampires make me get. (no ** to stuff like Blade). What I wanna see is a Vampire story about trafficking black market blood between mafias. Would be cash. Last edited by ace8489; 03-09-2010 at 11:37 PM. |

Le McSigh. People need to stop saying crap like this, because the people who do don't know what they're talking about. They aren't trying to do the same thing at all. You're free not to like it, but try doing so for an actual reason.

Re: Movies and Vampires
Despite all the pain that Twilight has put most people through, I think it opened doors for vampire fiction to get published more easily. Publishers see that it's popular, so they more readily publish titles that would normally be overlooked. I think it's a fabulous opportunity for authors to get their words out there.
That being said, a good portion of vampire fiction that I've found is still crap. In all my excitement, I bought a book where the first few pages were racy and marvelous and had nothing to do with vampires. Now that I'm several chapters into the book, I'm trapped with a Mary Sue protagonist, and all the original flare of the first few pages is gone and buried beneath pages of descriptions about clothing and wealth and blood wine. (Eugh.) Still, some of these vampire movies don't look too awful at all. I've been told by a friend that the Vampire's Apprentice is an excellent book series, and it makes my inner-LARPer pleased to see so many interesting takes on vampires and werewolves now. |

Re: Movies and Vampires
I love Stephen King...he's my favorite author....Dark Tower is one of the most amazing series I've ever read...
But! On the topic of Vampires...I feel the series in a decline. I hate it when Hollywood decides to take a small sub culture thing and pop it into the limeline, insulting the said sub culture in the process. It would be a different story if Twilight was actually a story worth telling, but it isn't. It's more dirty piggy capialist junk! It makes me cry inside when horror is insulted in such a way. There is a difference in making fun of vampires, and destroying them. It saddens me that when I start a discussion about horror, it somehow always loops to vampires...which is now looping to Twilight. Sigh, all the years as a horror buff and this is what I get @.@ .... Salems' Lot is Win for Vampires (The Shining is my personal favorite SK book ^-^) And Count Chocula is win as well  |
