I think the ending was the best option for the anime makers to take. A lot better than coming up with a half-assed written-for-anime ending. The way they set it up at the end also points to a second season. Even if you don't read the manga and know about the part they reference, anyone familiar with Dead Rising (or any other zombie form of media really) will recognize the significance of the ending.

I enjoyed the series but I do have some niggling problems with the series as a whole. I felt that the romance between rei and the main guy just felt forced and kind of felt awkward. This I felt weakened the two characters. Another problem I had with it was the fanservice.... Madhouse just invented new boob physics...... And now the boobs can go into bullet time and dodge bullets
 .. This just proves that the creator was a hentai artist.

I can't say I had a big problem with the ending. I really didn't expect a definitive ending to a show like this. When you think about it, there's only 2 outcomes the series could overall resolve on: either they all eventually get turned into zombies or they somehow survive, kill every last zombie on the face of the planet, then cross the fan service/hentai boarder when they start repopulating the planet.

Lol. I think they're going to fit both of those scenarios in the Second season... Oh, and what about the ending to the first season? a little cheap don't you think???

I felt a bit disappointed with the ending, not sure if there's going to be a second season, although my brother says so.
I personally enjoyed the series as the whole, but I do agree that the fanservice was excessive.

I don't know if this is true or not but I have heard that there is a OVA for this series that is coming out. It could still be a rumor though...
