This thread should have been made quite a while ago.

Anyway: I have been finally trying to get around to finishing Cowboy Bebop. I'm also having urges to watch Trigun once again. (Love and PEACE!)

I am watching Haruhi for the first time. I like it but I don't think its as awesome as some people think it is.it isn't, same with K-on, all of those "moe" animes are popular by force-marketing, advertise it as popular and suddenly everyone thinks it is.

Watching lately? Or...again and again?
Serial Experiment Lain (apparently the game that preceded this anime took a different approach to the anime story...from what I have seen on Youtube I wish the game was subbed for English and available over here);
Black Lagoon Ep6 (series is disappointing so far, too much like older TV pirate adventure yarns where the only smart players are the main characters, beginning to wish I hadn't bought the series);
GITS: 11 Individuals (kept my interest all the way through, good show!);
Cencoroll: (interesting show, wish it lasted longer than 27 minutes, have viewed it many, many times and wish my car could behave that way);
Time of Eve: (6 eps so far. Eps 3 & 6 are my favorites. Thought-provoking show about diminishing boundaries distinguishing humans from humanoid androids with A.I. Hope this becomes a series and gets imported over here);
2 shows where the manga is better:
1) Strawberry 100% (it's bad enough focusing on panty shots early on both in anime and manga but manga allows reader to see character development blossom past the intro fanservice between the student members of a film/drama club during their time in school. Manga's timeline allows interpersonal relationships to wax and wane beyond high school. Anime focuses on fanservice of the better drawn female cast working summer jobs in a hostel around horny male staffers...anime is a waste of your time.
2) Koi Kaze: not for the faint of heart. WARNING: the topic is older brother-younger step-sister pairing aka incest (or is it?). I was curious to see just how close or how far the animators would go finesseing their journey past the boundaries of certain taboo social mores. This is 1 of the aspects about anime I find intriguing...how much further can the moral envelope or boundary be pushed before outside censorship or your own sensibilities hold you in check? The manga deftly leaves no doubt about what occurs, the anime plays it safe. Neither venue is hentai though the age portrayal of the step-sister would be a concern to me if this story was intended for US publication (child pornography laws?).
Planetes: older anime about a group of folks working as space debris collectors. Decent treatment of budding romances of primary characters. The aspect of this series I found most refreshing was the healthy depiction of how a charismatic, energetic CEO can ably turn a project around and move it forward amidst the usual internal bureaucratic hierarchy power struggles. Most anime shows depict corporations and the higher officers who run them as corrupt, rigid, adverse to change.
Clannad and Kanon (2006) were wonderful weepies. Next up for me will be Air (another weepie, just a different season of the year)

Just started up the Winter season today, so I have some notes I scribbled down.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu - They know 'bout that Jesus. Tastes like it's directed by someone who's been rubbed off on by Shinbou. Totally badass and funny as hell, I feel a little bad for being so hesitant to watch it. Damn social-stratification. I wish school was like this when I went. Damn not-trap. Sweet ED. "Your test score is justice."

Dance in the Vampire Bund - Shinbou X SHAFT + loli vampire= great anime. DAT LOLI ♫♫♫. Could've just been me but the show looked like had a hazy film over it, I don't appreciate that, as it's how I see the world with my glasses off, so it's annoying to see with my glasses on. Not talking about the first episode though, that was cool. Amnesia, seemingly, resolved in the same episode it's introduced, awesome.

Durarara!! - Cool OP, and pretty good ED. Great art overall. Biker chick is totally sweet, hope see has a hot face, or a face at all. Hot foot shot in episode 2.

Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆ - Hidamari, now with 50% more wideface.

Omamori Himari - I predict weak fights. Tig bitties. Second episode is the beach episode, rapid. Icicle bisection. Some good boasting, such as the ability to drown fish.

Seikon no Qwaser - DAT NUN ♫♫♫. Seemingly cosmetic Christianity takes itself a little too serious. I believe I'll grow to loathe the chick with big knockers. Pimp midget.

So・Ra・No・Wo・To - Anyone who whines about the K-Onesquse art is an idiot, and more than a few a hypocrites. Kickass owl. Beautiful scenery. Needs more sweet-♫♫♫ trumpet.

And some general asides. What up with all the in show name flipping, by fansubbers no less. I find it annoying to the point of distraction, and it's ruining Dulalalalalalalalalalalalalalala for me, just a little bit though. Is it just me, or has there been a lot of gratuitous swearing inserted by fansubbers?

Also picked up some non-current-season stuff:

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Bangaichi
Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica
Needless Specials
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Specials
Code Geass - Hangyaku no Lelouch Picture Dramas

K-On art is great but i do agree that the characters in So-Ra-No-Wo-To were too heavily influenced by K-On and woulda perfered a slight moar originality there. The character who looks like Mio is named Rio... The scenery and art style is epic though but i could say that with every anime airing this season with exception of Hidamari.

As far as fansubber putting their own traits into the subs i would say is because gg is subbing a lot this season and also because Coalguys came back, both of which are known for not holding back on the us of swear words and taking the names of 2chan's community.

From what I saw of it, MAR (Marchen Awakens Romance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_eN29kNoRU)) was a good anime. However, Cartoon Network here dropped it after 30 or so episodes, and I consider it too long to download, so I had to drop it.

Hmmm...at the moment I am watching my brother find silly things on YouTube...the things people post for others to watch. Lol. Aside from that, I am currently in the middle of Clannad, a quite amazing anime, if I might say so myself. I found it on accident just looking for a new series to watch and out if curiosity checked it out. What an amazing and very captivating drama. = ] Fuko, one of the main characters ((as seen in my avatar to your left)), has gripped me heavily into their world.

Other than that I've just finished my 3rd run through of Best Student Council and plan on watching it again w/ the special features now that my box set came in. <3 I'm pretty excited!

Been watching K-On!!, Angel Beats!, Durarara (which I need to catch up on) and Pokémon DP Galatic Battles.

The first I've found myself warming to as it went on so I kept watching into the 2nd season, the second I started after seeing the first episode with friends and I've been amazed by it so far, as its shattered all my expectations.

The third I've fallen behind on because I had laptop problems while watching it and so had to stop for a bit and haven't gotten back into it yet, and I still watch Pokémon because its awesome. The DP series has been a huge return to form, and has provided by far the best plot, character development and battles of the show's entire run.

Oh, and I have Karas on DVD here to watch at some point. Fun fun fun. =D

i just caught up on Angel Beats! its a series that really surprised me, at first to me, it seemed like another kyo-ani, work from its initial look, but after watching a couple episodes, it became clear that its allot deeper then a kyo-ani work. found out that it was a Key work, the people who made Clannad and Air, so i am pleasantly surprised, its turning out to be a great series. I look forward to having it over here in the US, if i can get it for a good price, id gladly slap down my money for a nice copy of it.

Well Cowboy bebop hasnt really been available in the UK until recently (The boxsets were sooo expensive thank God for the Remix box)

I will warn you now on the ending to Afterstory, I was disgusted with the ending.

I have been watching Rainbow and I have to say to you all.....WATCH IT NOW. I mean I havent seen anything like this in quite a while, it is soo depressing yet so good, it is a train wreck, you cant not look at it. The cast is very strong, the reason why they are all in jail is rather sad (Especially Sakaguchi ;_;) and it really shows the dark side of people. Again I will say watch it because you wont be seeing anything like this coming from Japan for another 5 years at least.

K-ON season 2 - God this is bad, every time Yui opens her mouth I want someone to punch her.

Angel Beats - pretty good, nothing more to say

Fairy Tale - This is a very good shonen series, this could turn out to be one of the all time greats. The creator was really creative with the magic there are soo many different types and it hasnt reached episode 30 yet. The characters are strange, strange in the sense that I like all of the protaginists and there is pratically no angst which I am soo happy about. Finally the music is really good. My only problem is that the battles are not long enough.

I have been watching a couple of series Rainbow, Working!!, Angel beats, K-on!!, Fairy tail and Hetalia the second series. Be warned what I have wrote here may not make any sense and may be a load of rubbish. Hurray for a wall of text.

Rainbow follows the struggles of 6 inmates Joe, Mario, Suppon, Baremoto, Biceps and Cabbage as they are incarcerated into reformatory of Shio in 6-2. There they meet up with bro. Here the seven boys must learn to live an work together so that they can survive the daily beatings and humiliations that are dealt out mostly by the guard Ishihara. Little do the 6 new inmates know what they have been placed into as bro knows a dark secret that Ishihara wants him dead over.

This series is possibly the darkest and most grittiest series I have seen in all the years that I have watched anime (very few western releases come close to how dark this series is.). This series is set in and paints a very disturbing 1955 japan where problems are rife due to the pasts of these children. I do say children as aniki is the oldest as he is 18. the art style of this series complements the setting very well as the dark palette helps show the depressing atmosphere of their current situation. Even before each episode starts it mentions about the gore and it is right as it helps emphasis the situation.

The story itself is unique to me as I have not seen, read or even heard of a story like this. This is helped by the pacing and the telling of the story. Sure it can be a bit slow at times and there is very little action going on as it mostly focuses on the characters but it hits all the right notes throughout as when they are in the prison and find out their past (You might cry during some of these scenes and conclusions) you feel for them and once they are having a good time you know that it will be short lived.

Other note: The music does not really stand out as I vaguely remember any music in the series so far. The voice acting is well done and the villains are truly villainous and make the story even better (even if you do feel threatened or scared by them).

Overall I find this a hard series to recommend to people as it is very depressing and does not suit many peoples tastes. I must say that you MUST watch the first episode to see if you want to watch it as I have heard that soo many people have dropped the series after it as they feel that the series does not suit them and I can accept that.

The second series Working is set in the family restaurant situated in Hokkaido. At the start of the series we are introduced to Takanashi Souta a 16 year old middle school student. One night while out he meets with his sempai Taneshima Poplar who is a year older. She encourages him to work in the restaurant and he agrees and so our story begins as he meets the strange employees makes friendships yadda yadda. This story is nothing special but why should it be as it is a comedy. Sadly the comedy is rather hit and miss which does not help the matter at all. If you were to look at one screen you would think that it is a moeblob series... And you would be right so nothing much to say there. The voice acting is good but not that memorable.

Overall I think this series is... Meh but it is still better than a series that I will be mentioning. This is a good show if you dont know what to watch and want to kill 25 minutes.

The next series Angel beats. This series follows Otonashi, Yuzuru and yuri who is a leader of the Shinda Sekai Sensen who are made to combat the angel threat who can harness supernatural powers that is present. In this world Otonashi must get to grips with his death and amnesia in this new world while yuri fights the god who destined her to have an unreasonable life. My first initial thought of this anime were nothing special but after the 3 or 4th episode I was hooked as the characters are well developed with decent backgrounds and reasons for fighting.

This series has high production values as it has really good visuals and even made a completely new band called girls dead monster (If you listen to the radio they are played regularly so you should know some songs by now). I must say that the music that this band makes is really good and I was surprised to find out that they were made solely for this anime.

If you get a chance watch this as this is easily recommendable as it is an extremely good anime. On a side note you will probably remember and love T.K for reasons you will find out once you watch it.

The next anime Fairy Tail follows Lucy (a Celestial wizard) as she looks to join the guild called Fairy Tail (Surprise) were legendary wizards are found. During her travels to find fairy tale she meets our other main protagonist Natsu (A dragon slayer) and Happy. After an encounter with a shady wizard Lucy finds out Natsu is a part of Fairy Tail and so Natsu brings Lucy to Fairy Tail where she finds out that it is surprisingly easy to join. There she meets Gray and Erza and they form a team and complete tasks and fight wizards so on and so forth.

This series is really well done as I have not found a character that I do not like. Surprisingly still Natsu and Lucy are not even my favorite characters instead my favorite is Gray (An Ice creation wizard) and Loke. The characters are diversified and well developed that you will find a favorite and will still love the other characters. This is helped by the fact the characters have solid backgrounds that help flesh them out and they have arcs devoted to a single character.

The animation in this is really good and the fight scenes look spectacular. It is a bit weird that once people look at this series they think that this is done by the same people as one piece when in fact it is done by the same people as rave master... Weird. The soundtrack can be a bit hit and miss as there is some specular songs like the slow fairy tale theme but then there are other songs that aren't that great. The voice acting is top notch.

This series is easily recommendable to anyone and I would tell you to watch it NOW but crunchyroll have a 30 limit on each episode. So this means that you cannot watch the 1st episode or one that was released 2 months ago which is a pity.

The next series Hetalia the second series is just more hetalia. Its not as good as the first series but it is still hetalia.

Now K-on!! ughhh this is the bane of my existence. This is the shining example of what is wrong with the anime industry today. It is a complete moeblob series with two dimensional characters, the story's soo thin you could not spread it on a slice of bread and the music in this anime which revolves around music is rubbish and even includes an ear bleeding intro song.The worst part of this is that they made an unbearable series even more unbearable and the script is soo bad I stopped an episode and skipped it (I never do that).

I have to agree with that about K-On, there is nothing to it, it sells by moe, Ive forced myself to sit through the first episode, using all my willpower to keep myself from bashing my head against anything solid near me...

well ive caught up with Ichiban ushiro no daimaou and Mayoi neko overrun!, i actually like Daimaou, now neko overrun... the last 2 eps have nothing to do with anything... so i am starting to become disappointed in it... i also just caught up in Kiss X Sis, love that series.
still loving Angel Beats, though i doubt they could really pull something epic out of just 12 episodes...

Been currently watching fairy tail and... Ehhh I feel as if the quality of the show has dropped somewhat. (SPOILER) Maybe since they revealed that Natsu will become the strongest wizard anmd that is something that I do not really like as that makes the other characters somewhat irrelevant(END SPOILER)

Jigoku Shoujo, or "Hell Girl" is pretty good as well, somewhat melancholy and sad at times....but it shows how humans treat and act towards one another, especially if you had a chance to send someone to hell....X3

Rumbling Hearts is a good watch....very emo and realistic re relationships. 1 of my favorite moe anime. Even bought the DVD set.

Not really anime but movie Scott Pilgrim vs the World is fairly funny, slow in 1 or 2 places, but phenom re being visually innovative. Guys/gals on ANN made a good call re this movie.

Mushi-Shi IS amazing! It's one of those VERY underrated animes, I love it... I am currently watching Hell Girl, better known as Jigoku Shoujo. The English cast is simply stellar! Though I got hooked on the show when it first started in Japan, So I watched nearly the whole first and second seasons in Japanese, with subtitles of course. Now that it's licensed, I've been keeping an eye on lower prices XD and buying the DVDs.... ^_^ <3

microgamer2vs2
10-14-2010, 01:44 AM
Oh, I started Mushi-shi over the summer. It immediately stood out to me after the first episode. After watching a few, I realized that the format was going to be a new client per episode. The storylines for each one are still very awesome, but I think that's what made me drop the show for a little bit. I'm guessing there will still be long-term characterization for the main character, so I have to pick it back up some time.

Fall anime I've seen so far:
Star Driver
Bakuman
Arakawa 2
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt
Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai
Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru
Shinryaku! Ika Musume
Yosuga no Sora

I really want to watch Iron Man, but I hear the subs for it so far are pretty bad.

Also, lol Shiki, whenever it gets back from a hiatus (*braces for inevitable recap episode when it does start airing again)

Finished "Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Season 1" when ep.13 aired for Crunchyroll members. Raunchy show I suppose with flights of sheer genius. A real hoot from ep.6 on.
"World Only God Knows: Season 1" was a cute little show.
"Eureka Seven": OK show but already forgot it, show left no indelible lasting impression like PSG (lol).
Currently watching streaming shows featured on ANN: "Rideback", partially in; "Oreimo": another cute show, glad I watched it;
Cowboy Bebop, GITS, FMA on Adult Swim when it airs;
"Gurren Laggen": on ANN, about 25% thru it.

At ep.16 on "ToraDora" at point where ANN streaming charges a toll (very reasonable though). Good anime so I'll finish it.
Likely start with Level E via Crunchyroll tonight. ANN Review suggests it might be of interest.

Movie "Summer Wars" comes to StLouis in a few weeks. My wife and I will make a get outta the house effort to see this gem as it's only 2 hr 15 min drive away traffic permitting. VERY potty mouthed, even for the dub, I feel like I'm watching a PG-13 hentai with the way they throws curse words around, NONE of the character's voices match their characters with the exception of the one guy who screams at everyone.
I was intending to bail on this after the 2nd episode complicated things for me even worse, but after sticking with my guns, I'm actually into it.
Thankfully it's only 14 episodes (I'm on 8), and the OP is actually catchy.
