Re Isaac Asimov: possibly not the true 2nd Coming of Christ but his body of work would warrant awarding him an uppercase letter G for literary God.

As for Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy re Arthur Dent: the meaning of life is 42. You'll understand when you get that old.

I got lassoed into a book club once and we had to read "The Education of Little Tree". Fascinating little book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Based in 1930's Oklahoma during the Prohibition Era the story revolves around a 13-yr old full-blood Cherokee Indian lad who wishes to ignore "the Anglo Way" re good grade gratification in a white-run school and revert back to the ways and teachings of his grandparents. Good read, some of the themes relate to today in many ways.

Novels......novels! You mean paper is still used for reading, not merely printing fiat money????? Who knew!

Re: Anyone read novels... ever?

I've read quite a few novels. I've read the entire Count of Monte Critso, unabridged. I've read Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of Bakersfield as well as the Italian Secretary. I've read the entire Harry Potter series [7 books is a lot], Eragon, Eldest, Brisinger, and waiting for the 4th sequal to Paolini's series. I've read the novel adaptations of Eureka seveN, and Blood Plus.

In fact, i am currently writing my own novel, titled Phantasm [title to change with progression of book.]. I will post the first chapter after i have it edited. However, i've got a bad case of writers block, so don't expect it to be finished within a month or three.

Redwall
Harry Potter
(dammit Twilly, getting to my two big ones first...)
LotR
Siddhartha
Evasion
Days of War, Nights of Love

And I'm sure I'm missing a few. Lately I've been reading more non-fiction pieces though...

Re: Anyone read novels... ever?

So far this year I have read...

On Liberty by J.S. Mill (although, that one is more of an essay)
Consilience by E.O. Wilson
The Joys of Motherhood by Buchi Emecheta

However, I have not really enjoyed any of the three...

Currently reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy... Same guy who wrote No Country for Old Men. Its super depressing to read but at the same time so compelling you want to know what lies on the next page saddening as it may be.

Re: Anyone read novels... ever?

Doesn't seem like this part of the forums gets much activity...

I'm an English Major so I do a lot of reading for school. I used to do a lot of reading for pleasure, but not so much time now. Currently taking a course on Charles ♫♫♫♫ens so reading some of his works at the moment.

I don't really get into the big continuous fantasy series, since I'd feel compelled to buy all of them, though I have read all of Harry Potter, and the His Dark Materials trilogy. Some of my favorite books are:

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
The Terror by Dan Simmons
World War Z by Max Brooks, and by extension the Zombie Survival Guide (surprised no one mentioned that yet)

I'm also a fan of H.P. Lovecraft, and also short stories in general.

Re: Anyone read novels... ever?

Actually If you like Percy Jackson you would like Artemis Fowl and the Dragonlance Chronicles...
I suggest Dragonlance first... Autumn Twilight, Winter's Night, and Spring Dawning was the first three books to start it all off... It actually helped D&D become what it is today ^.^

I seriously would lay down my life in bet that you guys will love it... Ive re-read it over millions of times and it never gets old... I love it so much that I got the collectors edition and its so well used that its falling apart on how many times I've read it...

Re: Anyone read novels... ever?

I've read quite a few, but my favorite book by far Catch-22 by Joesph Heller, its not in chronological order, so for the first half of the book you have no idea what going on, and somewhere in the second half everything fits together and all of a sudden you know everything ever until the ending which is the most random thing in the world. Funny and an all around great book.

To be honest I'm not the type of people that tent to read books with the exception of mangas and other graphic novels
But the novels I sometimes read are light novels and some science fiction
