After a bit of an impromptu break, The Owl in the Rafters is back with a convention related update! Anime Central, one of the largest anime conventions in the U.S.'s midwest region was this past end of April weekend so I'd like to go over some brief highlights and address my usual concerns with the state of the convention scene and, to some extent, anime fandom in general.

‘Bejitarizumu,’ a play on the words vegetarian (be-ji-te-ri-an-iz-u-mu) and rhythm (ri-zu-mu), has quickly become one of Japan’s most recent viral videos. There is a question that I hear fairly frequently that bothers me more than it rightly should. I understand the intent behind the query, but the way it is phrased is so poorly thought out and foolish sounding that it makes me roll my eyes just out of reflex. Because no matter how intelligent the person may be, the moment they ask that flawed question, “Are video games art?”
