Pokemon Tournament!

As you guys may or may not know, the big announcements include a Final Fantasy week and a Pokemon week. Within these weeks are many special guests and there are many prizes to be won.

I have been placed in charge of the Pokemon Tournament! You can see the full list of rules I wrote posted up here by our very own Kanashimi:

http://918thefan.com/2010/final-fant...eeks-commence/

If you have any questions, go ahead and ask them here and I will answer them for you.

PLEASE read the post above before asking a question, that post should answer all the basics.

No sir. Changing the order is, but not the team.

Re: Pokemon Tournament!

All registrations will be sent to my PM box on the forums. You will need to write which Pokemon you are using, but it will be in a PM. So no worries there.

I will talk more about it closer to the day of.

You can't have two of the same Pokemon EE ;]

Re: Pokemon Tournament!

How does the loser bracket work, in terms of during the tournament when people from the winner's bracket are eliminated

On the registration form, there is a field to register your six Pokemon, which are the Pokemon you will use all the way through the tournament. There are countless reasons for this. It insures nobody switches to a hacked pokemon between matches, and besides that, it's just standard for any tournament. We're not playing for an Olympic medal here, it's simply an easy way to have a ton of fun and win a few prizes in the process. As for the order, it gives no significant advantage to you if you change the order of your Pokemon between battles because you don't know which order your opponent will play them in, it's all a matter of preference really.

Here's a good reference to look at, it's easier than explaining it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:NS...-draw-2004.png

Ignore the bottom graphic, we wont need to worry about 5th place, so just look at the main brackets.

I didn't attend said meeting, haha. I only showed up for the last 10 minutes.

I just thought we might be able to change our order, because it CAN give advantages. It matters little what the other Pokemon is, but, y'know...helping hand, etc.

Re: Pokemon Tournament!

My apologies, I thought you were there when we went over it. Come to think of it, it was probably some really awkward time in Australia.

But anyways, there are countless strategies that can be used all over the place, It would drive me insane if I went around nailing down every strategy that came up. Really, I don't think it's such a big deal, there isn't an over abundance of moves that could give a party an advantage based on it's order.

I always thought helping hand was just a 2-on-2 battle move. I guess I could be wrong on that one.

Re: Pokemon Tournament!

I've heard a lot of those sorts of comments which is fine and everything, but everyone has to remember, this is supposed to be fun. If you lose, you lose. That's just how it goes. Not everyone will be using Pokemon you don't want to face and not everyone will have time to put together some dream team that will destroy the competition. The tournament starts soon, registration starts sooner, so everyone has had limited time to put together what they can, and that's how it is! I think instead of worrying about what you may or may not face or what kind of things your opponent may use against you, just remember first and foremost, we're all here to have fun.

Point is, I don't want anyone feeling discouraged about it when it's not for a while yet. k? :)

And who knows, if all runs smoothly, we may or may not decide one day down the road to try it again in a different format on a recreational level. But for today, and Pokemon week, those are the rules, and I encourage everyone to join. The more people we have, the more battles everyone can get in and the more fun we all have, right?

So everyone put their smiling faces on and get ready for some fun -> :)

Re: Pokemon Tournament!

The meetings are always at an awkward time, I have to wake up at 7AM on a Sunday.

I think I meant Baton Pass, or whatever that move is called, that allows you to switch Pokemon easily without suffering the effect of field moves.
