I've been on and off about going to Anime Expo (mostly because it's so far for me).

It's definitely worth going once just for the experience.
Dealers Hall is always jammed pack with multiple dealers and the artist alley is squeezed in the back. This year they moved few autograph session lines to the Gaming Hall, which reduces congestion inside Dealers Hall. I wouldn't suggest bankrupting yourself unless it's a "must have" limited edition item such as Tsuyoshi Nonaka's Zaku commission.
