Anime Blues 2012, round 2

Once again hosted at the Hilton, Anime Blues' second year saw things become a little more organized. Space was better-allocated, especially for vendors (although I'd love to hear Reaperking's view on this). New offerings this year included a maid cafe, an AMV contest, and a charity auction lunch, among others. Lots of Loli-based presentations this year, too. I also thought that I noticed more artists in Artists Alley. And many thanks to Reaperking for handing out Fan fliers at her booth!

Two areas which have sadly not yet improved are food offerings and security. I'd love--dearly love!--to see food vendors in the con. While the Hilton provides a [single] food station offering sandwiches and such (at Hilton prices!), attendees must venture off-site to find variety and more-reasonable prices. Security was again overwhelmed and underwhelming, trying to create a presence by being loudly reactive. As someone who works as both a police officer and a security officer, I must point out that police work is largely reactive by nature, while successful security work must be proactive. I understand that wanting to maintain a friendly environment can entice organizers to try to keep everything in-house, but the safety of your attendees and participants is too important to leave to amateurs. Hire professionals.

Overall, I had a fun time and left with some great merchandise and dvd's. (Sorry, no pics: the crowds were bigger but predominately younger this year, and the outfits skimpier--I'd have probably arrested a man my age with a camera out. . .) Next year is back at the Hilton, 21-23 June, 2013, so y'all come by and check things out! I might even share the fried chicken I plan to smuggle in. . .
