I would prolly go with action, comedy and everything non-mecha.

Oh and I dislike overly dramatic anime, like Clannad.

Those bloody, gory messes of an anime that take psychotic twists and has a deeper meaning/plot line then you would think.

I also love the historical animes!
And the ones that involve creepy black magic!

yeah , I'm going to have to go with romance , comedy and suspense and detective animes mainly , I love an anime that has a story that can suprise you but not to the point it's all over the place or overly complicated.

The type of anime that i prefer to see are Action, Romance, and comedies. I also like the intelectual ones like death note.
I think that Romantic Comedies have the best storylines though.

I'm all about hyper-violence and giant robots. The combination of the two, like in New Getter Robo, is especially nice.

Now that Baccano! has come around Gangster movie is now a genre in anime, so that is my favorite, I also enjoy the mind ♫♫♫♫ genre (yes, I consider it a genre), most series have a bit of romance, but I have seen very few actual romance shows, I also like a good drama like Gankutsuou.

"Gangster" would generally be something akin to "film noir", correct?

Not a horrible comparison, but it'd actually be the cluster of genres that is Crime Film, as such, it's not an actual genere.

Yeah, a bit like Noir, only less of a downer, more colorful, and less detectivey.

Mecha, Romance, and Fantasy, in that order. I, of course, go outside these genres, but they are my most common.

Whatever piques my interest really. I find myself watching bits and pieces from every defined genre provided. The ones that really get me are the obscure and artsy kind of ones. Also, comedy is also a hugely favoured genre of mine - for anything really.

It's kind of hard to pinpoint the genres. For example, I love Trigun, but is it action or comedy? Still, I guess I'll venture to say action and mystery (although who doesn't love a good comedy?).

Mellow slice of life is my favorite genre. I was absolutely blown away when I first saw Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. The random slice of life like Lucky Star isn't bad either but for those it depends on the specific series.
