heres my top 10:

1) Kuroshitsuji
Dark, Emotional, Funny
The main character and his demonic Butler all all about casting revenge upon those who destroyed the main character's life but there are many comedy aspects along the way, takes place in 19th century England

2) Yu Yu Hakusho
Supernatural, Comedy, Fighting
A great series if your into just a good around slug out between humans and other worldly creatures

3) School Days
Dark, Sexy, Suspenseful
This series is like a chocolate covered cherry, except the cherry is actually a strawberry, anything you think is gonna happen completely tells you otherwise, a good series that has you going "OMG!" the entire way through

4) To Aru Majutsu no Index
Spiritual, Supernatural, High Dose of comedy, perversion
While the story makes little to no sense, it does a good job of keeping you watching with the comedy and slice of life involved. Its a great series with plenty of it to go on and a wonderful OST

5) Elemental Gelade
Romance, Supernatural, Comedy
A great story, especially if you enjoy a romance anime filled with comedy and adventure

6) Cromartie High
Pure Comedy
Based on the drawings and screen shots (if you've never watched it before), it looks like a serious and dramatic show, well thats wrong. Cromartie High is filled with 110% comedy, just when you think theres a heart filled moment, someone comes out with a dirty joke or a gorilla walks on screen, if you NEED a laugh Cromartie will not fail you.

7) Chrome Shelled Regios
Action
Chrome Shelled Regios takes place in a time where the air on earth is toxic due to pollution, people now live in mobile cities called Regios, training people to fight against the Filth Monsters (Giant worm/insect monsters the size of buildings, mutated from the toxic chemical in the atmosphere) who attack cities and devour them.

8) Outlaw Star
Comedy, Action, Adventure
Everyone knows Outlaw Star, great story, great music, and action, if you need a reason to watch Outlaw Star then your lost

9) G Gundam
Action, Adventure, Giant Mechs, Romance
G Gundam is purely different from any other Gundam series, its silly at times and cheesey but thats what makes it so great, because you just want to see it continue. The roance doesnt happen until toward the end, nonetheless, its a worthwhile series, anyone who says otherwise will hear galloping hooves and CRIES FOR REVENGE.

10) Princess Princess
Yaoi-ish/Shoujo, Comedy, Slice of Life
Princess Princess is a good place to start if your looking to watch a Yaoi anime, while the entire series is 4% Yaoi, the rest of it is funny, awkward, heartwarming and colorful, with a wonderful OP and ED theme that just drags you in with amazing artwork.

The epicest anime all time without a doubt has to be School Days. Watch it. Comment. And then cry yourself to sleep

If you liked Durarara!! you might like Baccano!. It's made by the same team, and based off of one of the same authors light novels. The thing about Baccano! is that the English dub is VASTLY superior. Now before you judge, consider this: The entire story is in the 1930's with no Japanese characters. This, and the Brooklyn accents in the dub, make the show feel much more authentic.

My favorites, in no particular order, are Monster, Gurren Lagann, Serial Experiments Lain, Boogiepop Phantom.

Also, any movies/series directed by either Yoshiaki Kawajiri or Satoshi Kon.

For anime, I HAVE to recommend Gintama! It's kinda like the inverse of series like Naruto and Bleach in that it focuses itself as a comedy / parody series, while at the same time establishing certain named arcs within the series that have a lot of fight scenes and serious moments. In fact, the number of references made to outside sources is just phenomenal and it all works amazingly!
