Listening to Kana's Korner and heard the conversation about Toonami. Reminded me about how much of an impact it had on me when it came to watching anime.

I really wish they would bring it back in the form of a TV channel. Nickelodeon has like 4 different channels. Cartoon Network has Boomerang for the old shows, why not make the Toonami channel to show off the old anime shows and new ones. I understand it can be hard to get old ones on because of different ownership but I would think they could make some sort of deal.

What are your opinions on this?

Also, it would have to be in the style of the old Toonami with Tom on the ship, not all the way with Moltar and not the thing it became right before it went off the air.

I used to love toonami.

I was also disappointed when it was taken down.

I would love to see it rise again, it was a great place to find anime especially when you were a junior :D

Well, it couldn't be the first Tom. The creature killed him.

Anyway, I agree. Toonami was a big part to Cartoon Network. Most of its rating probably came from that! I grew up watching it. From the midnight times to the 7pm, I loved it. Then, it was taken off. I gave up Cartoon Network after that. I only watch the channel for Adultswim.

It would of been cool for it to get its own channel, though.

I don't Have Adult Swim :(

So toonami was the only channel with anime really =/

Yup, everytime the time changed I would always catch it on it's new time.

When they went through that Miguzi phase, I think that's where it went down hill. They moved Toonami to just Saturday and then so on.

Yeah I remember how the first Tom was killed off. Just bring back Tom before they got those weird looking Robots before it went off air.

Toonami was nothing compared to Cartoon Cartoons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyJLjT5bsb4).

You want the golden days of Cartoon Network? That's it right there.

I was talking anime relatedness but if we are going into how Cartoon Network use to be, then yeah...Cartoon Cartoons was where it was at. They really should have that around. It would be nice to see pilot episodes of cartoons and then get people's reactions to them instead of releasing a full show that no one likes.

The ending of Toonami was insanely sad in my opinion. I'm unaware if any of you actually tuned in, but it certainly felt like someone was jabbing me in the gut.

I saw the ending to it all. It was indeed very sad. A big part of my childhood came to an end and so far, I have yet to really find anything to replace that empty hole they left from removing Toonami.

Yup, I saw that a few weeks ago. They are showing Naruto Shippuden on Disney XD. Kinda caught me off gaurd there.

Anyway all these videos bring back so much. They made the best bumpers for their shows...EVER. The music they used was phenomenal and really got me into that sort of electronica/Euro music.

I don't really know what happened to the third Tom. They just replaced him. It happened once they got the Saturday night spot.

lol yeah.

I remember when Adult Swim had the actual pool promos. They had a pretty good block of Anime back in the day, but now they just concentrate more on the other programming.

Well, it's still good anime now, it's just that it's the same anime they've been showing for five years. I swear they've run through Cowboy Bebop at least 10 times now.

I thought that little fat Tom was the one that got hurt, so he was replaced with the awesome Tom who was tall and extremely manly.

The first Tom got killed. I don't think the other Tom got hurt.. unless it was in the other special.

Yeah, Turner Broadcasting really started a good phenomena introducing anime to a mass audience: Toonami. I didn't appreciate anime right away. I remember channel surfing while stuck in a motel outwaiting a Midwest snowstorm back then lamenting that there just wasn't anything worth watching on the tube. I settled for a "cartoon" about some Japanese school kid and his celestial friends (Tenchi Muyo). This show was funny while some of the other series airing at the time were palatable. Pretty soon I found myself going out of my way to schedule time to watch TV: TBS at a certain time in the afternoon. This is when I discovered Cowboy Bebop...I've been hooked ever since.

Aww dude, I watched all of Tenchi Muyo, Blue Sub 6, and Outlaw Star on Toonami. And then it stopped and I just sorta fell out of the Cartoon Network fandom and turned to internets TV for my anime. =3

Seriously though, TV has just fallen so out of tune for me and some of my family. My mom wants to just get rid of our cable and just have our internet. I would probably be fine with that, alot of people I know do that. With Hulu, Youtube, and all the other sites on the internet, I can basically have my TV and more.

I havent turned on the TV in over a year (or 2) for something other than anime dvds or video games, I did watch toonami back in the day though for dragonball, cowboy bebop and trigun to name a few. I never leave my interwebs.

Hah, seems like I'm the only one with things still on TV to watch. I often find myself on Comedy (That's Comedy Central for you Americans), Fox8 or Fox Classics.

I rarely watch anime being broadcast on TV these days. To me that's purely DVDs.

Well, I have two roommates who are even less TV-inclined than I, so if I wanted TV I'd have to pay for it all by myself and considering I'm a cheap-skate, not gunna happen. X3

I have been watching Lost on Hulu, tho. Does that count as TV?

Well from what we have talked about in my Media Literacy class, the internet is just becoming this place where we can go for just about every type of media. Watching movies, TV shows, reading stories, even listening to the radio on the computer. Now companies want that money that they think they can get from the internet. Now you see way more ads on sites now and right before videos.

TV ratings are not where they use to be, NBC is totally dropping the ball on their primetime. I do catch shows on television sometimes but at the same time, I got my computer up and running.

I think that's a good thing. These companies still have a bottom line they have to look out for and using ads to create revenue and monetize the system gives them the ability to do that.

Right and Im alright with these companies thinking that Im watching their little ad before a video while Im actually doing something else. It's all about making these companies think their commercials are doing something. When you watch TV and commercials come up, I flip it around or Im just going to do something else while Im waiting for the show to start.

Some people think this is very wrong that now they are basically trying to add ads to every part of the internet and some people just don't want that. That is where some look at internet society as a very socialist thing. Everybody wants everything but they don't want to pay for it and even when these sites put up adds to help pay for things, people go crazy and say they don't want to be forced to look at or watch an ad.

It's something that needs some time to work out and hopefully in the future, they will come up with better ways to do it and people can accept it and move on with their lives.

Sandgolem

well personally I don't mind ads. Espically on free content on the internet. I know that it takes some kind of money to make what Im watching and I'd at least like them to make that back! :3 With Anime in particular that is why we made this site and community is to help support the industry via watching Streams online.
