So, Tyto and I went to see Arrietty today, only a day or so after the U.S. release! I have to say I loved it, but you'll get the whole low-down next Sunday with my next installment of Rants-a-lot.

Has anyone seen it yet? What did you think? The best (i.e. most thought provoking or even most silly within moderation) *may* be featured in next week's edition! Keep it clean, keep it thoughtful.

Without further ado, any thoughts on Arrietty?

I just saw the movie last night, and I must say it is probably one of my favorite Ghibli movies ever!

Some couple brought there young child to go see it, I was thinking that they must be taking their kid to see a kid's movie, but the parents looked like they were more into the movie than the kid was.

I know that Disney got the rights to publish the movie for kids but in my personal opinion I think this movie should be for all the audiences after all more mature people could understand better than little kids what is going on, but still its a movie that have a nature for little kids and that is what is the best part

Over all I love it my only complain is that most of the kids in there did not stop talking so I could not enjoy fully but that normal

Actually, you would be surprised at how keen children really are. As a teacher (and a teaching student), I've come to notice that children have the innate capacity to pick up on the subtle nuances that we think go right over their heads. I had a conversation with one of my professors with a young daughter (6 y.o.) and she was shocked at how she could comprehend Shawn's (Sho's) brush with his own mortality. It was really touching to hear stories from parents who took their kids to this film, expecting another mainstream Disney movie and coming out of it as whimsied as the children.

As for our theater going experience, ours was pretty subdued (surprisingly, considering the theater was 90% 8 & under). I would go again if it were in the budget!

I saw the movie the other night, it had a nice atmosphere and I enjoyed the music as well. I heard complaints about Shawn's voice, but I didn't see a problem with it. He was a terminally ill kid who was positive he was gonna pass away, I'd sound pretty emo, too. :P

For reference if anyone wants to see our interview with the animation director of the film it's located here: http://918thefan.com/2011/am%C2%B2-interview-with-akihiko-yamashita-and-miho-shimogasa/ and also our live blog of his panel http://918thefan.com/2011/live-blog-am%C2%B2-yamashita-shimogasa-panel/

I saw it yesterday and was blown away! True and sad to say, despite my complaints about movie interpretations often straying too far from their books, I really was hoping for a more Disney-esque ending this time. Still, I didn't have to hide my tears as often as with the book. One really pleasant surprise was hearing Cecile Corbel! I've been a fan of hers for years (young as she is!), and after we got home showed my sons some autographed cd's from the harpist. What an inspired soundtrack choice!

Man, her story is pretty awesome. She sent in a demo to Ghibli in a fan letter (asI think the story went). She got the job. Her song was so sweet and the lyrics just fit. It was a lovely choice to polish off this movie.

Every fan's dream--recognition and inclusion!!! I'm so happy for her. Plus, the movie is a great showcase for her music. . .

I feel like the soundtrack really added to the simplicity of the story. It wasn't as action-packed as some other Ghibli films, but it was still great nonetheless

I finally saw this at Otakon, and it's really a great movie. It's bittersweet and the borrowing reminds me of dungeon crawling.
