After joining Anime Network (http://www.theanimenetwork.com) I waited anxiously all day and night plus more (site issues,it was being swamped with viewers) for the premiere of "Highschool of the Dead"

Highschool of the Dead is one of my FAVORITE Mangas, if anyone knows anything about me, I have a severe bitter taste for horror films such as "Saw", "Friday the 13th", "Grudge", etc..
But Zombie flicks I have a sweet tooth for, I just love the idea of watching these people survive in such a horrifying environment, thinking to yourself "how would I have done it", plus its a great way to gamble with your friends on who dies and who doesn't.v

Highschool of the Dead is a simple formula: Zombies + Boobs x Anime - Rules = BEST ANIME EVAR!!!! #hand

But enough about that lets get to the sexy details:

The anime itself already has an incredible soundtrack (I'm currently in love with the ED theme). While the Anime holds out on all the tasty flesh nom nom visuals, it does however create a great atmosphere, something you can't really get in a manga (You can read the "AHS" and the "OHS" and the "NOMS" but really who reads the background effects?). You see people being eaten, struggling, screaming. It gives a horrifying atmosphere, you think back to series like "Kimi no Todoke" or 'School Rumble" and imagine those simple lives being ultimately destroyed by this plague.

Of course we witness the first kill of a main character (I consider him to be since he plays something of a dynamic role in the first episode/act, like Hilda from Outlaw Star). I found it somewhat hilarious as to who Hiashi's voice actor was (Hiashi being the one who died). Who was he? Well heres a hint> #omgveryno

Without going too much into it, I was so happy, I had a set of a ribs ready to devour as the people where being nom nomed on. I'm not much of a chatter box or professional opinionated... of.... some kind... of person... that does things.... :uh:

Woah, I watched it. A little too NOT dramatic for me, though. With all that death an destruction, I would've been so mentality unstable by that time.
Amazing animation, graphics, and a good mystery to build on though. I give it many props. :)

I have read the translated manga to a certain point (trying to find the others) and i have yet to see the anime.
I did catch the trailer of it way back when it first was announced and i do like it still.
Other zombie/Undead/Monster/etc. mangas are good but this series was the one i was waiting for!
I do love the "Slow Zombies that are attracted to loud noises and no other special things." type of zombies, plus the one bite=dead rule. and that makes it a real survival horror manga. People die left and right and i was in love with it!

fun fact: Throughout the whole manga, i forgot that it had Ecchi moments as i thought the whole thing was like a "real life" scenario of a zombie outbreak manga.

UPDATE: Anime made this BETTER! Music is good like you said and besides the constant panty shots/boob jiggles, it is what i LIKE!

Okay, to start the animation is nice, Madhouse has always done a good job when it come to animation and staying focused on the plot. Sadly the only down side is that Madhouse is only making 13 eps or so I've heard/read. Now I can't really judge to much more since I've only seen EP 1 so far. (I haven't read the manga.) BUT I'm expecting great things since my friend highly recommended it to me so I'm hoping for a good plot and loyalty to the manga instead of just a bunch of people killing zombies with flashing and boobs every 5mins. Hopefully Mad house will do a good job since they did make Black Lagoon and all of it's awesomeness~

I was skeptical. But wow. That is just an awesome first episode to a series which can only get better. So much happened in that first episode that at the end you're just left with the thought, "wow". I vastly enjoyed it. I look forward to the second episode.

I loved it soooo much, Hirano is my favorite episode, little disappointed that the ending changed (although I expected it).

So far what I have seen in the first two episodes are really good. The animation is good and the music fits it very well. Though I have to say one thing..... Too much fanservice (It reaches ikki tousen levels I think). Though I still really like this series and hope that it doesn't end out dissapointing me like Chaos:head did.

I LOVE THIS ANIME. I'm completely hooked on the opening theme so far and I'm struggling to not get too attached to any characters (since, they killed off one potential main by the first episode). The fan service also does not disappoint. Can't wait for more!

It is a good show but my God there is WAY to much fanservice, it is kinda disgusting infact I want the nurse to die because she boings -__-

Also I found the only two good characters to be the pink haired girl and the gun otaku :/

Was anyone else who's read the manga SUPER ANGRY with the ending to the series?
I mean... WTF!

The best anime in the world got one of the worst endings imaginable.

I think the ending was the best option for the anime makers to take. A lot better than coming up with a half-assed written-for-anime ending. The way they set it up at the end also points to a second season. Even if you don't read the manga and know about the part they reference, anyone familiar with Dead Rising (or any other zombie form of media really) will recognize the significance of the ending.

I enjoyed the series but I do have some niggling problems with the series as a whole. I felt that the romance between rei and the main guy just felt forced and kind of felt awkward. This I felt weakened the two characters. Another problem I had with it was the fanservice.... Madhouse just invented new boob physics...... And now the boobs can go into bullet time and dodge bullets#facepalm.. This just proves that the creator was a hentai artist.

I can't say I had a big problem with the ending. I really didn't expect a definitive ending to a show like this. When you think about it, there's only 2 outcomes the series could overall resolve on: either they all eventually get turned into zombies or they somehow survive, kill every last zombie on the face of the planet, then cross the fan service/hentai boarder when they start repopulating the planet.

I felt a bit disappointed with the ending, not sure if there's going to be a second season, although my brother says so.

I personally enjoyed the series as the whole, but I do agree that the fanservice was excessive.
